Big Rich has asked me to post this query for his Disco.
We replaced the Front UG on the prop shaft a while ago and it's gone again.
We have now been informed it's because we needed to fit a pair of Camber radius correction arms in place (3 degrees), due to him having a two inch lift. Is this correct???
:?: :?: :?:
If so would the QT type be best from paddocks or are say Scorpion racing's own make okay? Or even if someone out there has one spare they wanna sell.
Cheers

From what I've heard, they are not essential for a 2" lift, but I have a set of QT corrected ones on my Defender and they seem OK. Rather than getting them from Paddocks, I got them direct from QT Services (see their website), they were cheaper.

Anyone know where to get a resonable priced UJ in a hurry?

Any motor factor in Northampton :-)
Get a hardy spicer UJ

3 degrees is correct for a 2" lift
The QT ones look the best but there are a lot of other brands selling them too which are cheaper (but heavier)
Bullfrog sells some nice green ones.

I've heard that putting a spacer on the prop can help it too
Wizard sells them.

fitting caster corrected raduis wont help the UJ situation at all, may even make it worse and the nose of the diff drops further still.
-
Cheers for that Jake.
Your castor angle will be out with a 2" lift.
It does also cause premeture wear in the prop.
Fitting re castored arms will sort your steering but will still affect the prop.
Fitting a double cardon prop will sort this as there are more UJs so each one does less.
Not sure how fitting a spacer would help unless longer arms are fitted ?? :?
I would say shop around for parts and do bear in mind most UJ kits are £30 and a new prop is £60 so just as cheap really. :?
If I can help fell free to contact me. :D  :)

The QT arms are a tad longer to correct the shortening of the wheelbase casued by lifting, but it's a matter of mm. I think the spacer alows you to use a Defender one on a Disco.
-
Bullfrog: if your paying £30 for a UJ kit you were robbed & if you can get props for £60 ill have 2.
a genuine landrover HD UJ kit is only £15 at even the most expensive of parts retailers i know of

When you replace the hardy spicer have a good look at how the UJ works at an angle. You'll see that the two forks are mashing against the flange on both sides, you'll probably see a slight dent forming on the flange. Try grinding a little of the metal from both flanges where the end of the forks touch. This will give the UJ more room to do it's job. DO NOT grind anything off the end of the fork. Hope this helps. Just another question.. Which way does the front prop shaft go on? The male to the diff or the female to the diff? If I have mine on the wrong way would that be why I have front uj problems?
Many Thanks
:( Too much work and no play :(

Rich,
It has been suggested to me that running the propshaft the 'wrong way' round ie the sliding joint towards the front actually helps the situation with regard to lunching your UJ on a regular basis.
However I've not tried it so don't know if it helps or not. I went a diffrent route and got a job lot of UJs.

I have my sliding joint on the front Prop fitted diff end.
The rear one has the sliding joint at the transfer box end.
Not sure what actual difference it makes as there a a few considerations, like dirt ingress, what if they come apart on the road, etc..etc..

One of my customers bought a UJ kit for £30 but decided to get a new prop instead as 2nd UJ was just as bad. Padocks did it for £60.
