How can you tell if the timing upgrade kit has been fitted?  (preferably without having to take it apart!)

Cheers

you could try contacting your local main dealer, if you give them your chassis number/ reg. they should be able to enter it into their computer that links nationwide and tell you if and whether it has been done/needs doing.

hope this helps

from what ive heard not all were afected even though they were within chassis range, iff you cant see a paint mark or any advice from a dealer, just check the drain hole underneath the cam belt housing. iff its full of rubber debris ,filings or bits of belt teeth yourve got probs. iff its clean theres a good chance its been done or doesn,t need doing. i dont think mines had the conversion its in the c/range to be done. but doesnt wear the belt. cheers alan.....

What about the previous owners details off the log book, drop them a letter asking whether they had it done?

AFAIK:

Kit two (the most common one) - Part no. STC4096K is £55+vat from a main dealer (£80 from most other suppliers)

Kit one - STC4095K - not sure on the main dealer price but Paddocks are selling them for £95 at the moment (All Genuine Part too!!) - here http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/SPEC...grade_Kit.html

The part numbers may have changed to ******L rather than ******K but the dealers should be able to tell you.
