My Mum has had both.  The SJ413 was the worst car i have ever been in, noisy, smelly, slow, pitched and tossed worse than a 1950's Landy and You sit so close together You feel like you should be holding hands with the passenger, the bodys rot like the devil aswell....... But they are very very cheap to buy and cos they weigh nowt can make a landy look daft in mud.......  Also very very cheap and easy to mod.  No PAS but not heavy to steer (My Mum managed).

Jimnys are OK, not particularly economical regardless what Suzuki say. they are relatively quiet and not uncomfortable, You still sit close but leg room is ok and i am well over 6'. It seems well built in comparison to the SJ and so far it has proved reliable.  They lack character though to the point where my Mum misses the truckishness of her old Sammy, we have never had it offroad but my Mate has one and we took it laning, it did ok but suffers from tiny wheels and no real clearance but is completely standard. I was rather impressed with the suspension travel though but the small size makes for a bouncy uncomfortable ride offroad compared to a coil sprung landy.  I have no idea about modding one.

I guess the conclusion would be that the SJ is a good toy but hell everyday whereas the Jimny is a good car aswell......  Really it depends on your wallet size and whether it will be a daily drive or a plaything.  Don't You fancy a Landy?

lmao no, and the modding on a jimny is comparable to a sammy.

Rolla your only jelous 'cos it don't get stuck or fall over like some Zuks I can mention? Jimnys are the new SJ with more mods available every day. Mine keeps breaking but I'm told thats cos of how I drive it! Only minor mods are needed to show up most green oval products, and I do mean minor mods. 2" lift and some bigger mud terraine tyres. Less than £500 on mods and you've got a vehicle that will go almost anywhere and leave Landy's floundering in the mud with their drivers spitting blood! I have the photo's to prove it.

They don't realy have any major problems as yet. They've not been around that long realy. The only known rust problem I've heard off is in the 'boot' area in the corners and in the well for the jack etc. But these areas are easy to get to both inside and underneath so that preventative measures can be taken. Mine has spent the last three years playing in mud holes without any major rust problems.

Parts can be expensive compared to SJ's with less non orig. choice but every day more and more bits are coming available.

No only driven a std Jimny and ridden in an SJ. As an every day car theres no contest, it has to be a JImny. If you want something to put some AT's on for the occassional off road trip then ability will be similar, the Jimny will be more comfey and having a EFi motor pulls better especially on hills.

i have had 2005 jimny for the last few months and done 15k on road with and without trailers on the back and 3 green lanes inthe last month the only thing i would say is they are a bit slow 80 is the vmax but will do 70 all day but do need at least at's for off road as the standard rubber is crap in mud if you live near bedford, i could take you out in it so you could make your on mind up

ps dont corner to fast!!

may be not used sj off road but they are no good if you have 1 car for both jobs and do 20-25k a year, i dont maintain my car due to warrinty but have fitted winch and am now fitting lift kit and snorkel.

it all depends on how much off road you want to do
the sammy has bigger c/v joints stronger t-case bigger axels
cheeper to mod(parts for jimnys are still exspensive)
bad points they rot but if you look aroung good ones can be had
jimny great engine coils even tho they are way to stiff for the size of it
small axels more like 410 size with mini c/v joints and smaller king pins
which is bad if you go to larger tires
requires more modding to run the same size of tires on a sammi
you can put 215 on a sammi with little mods
on a jimny its a coil lift triming of the arches
ive had both and the sammi wins i'll even say that im not going to bother
moding the jimny because the best way of moding it is to put all the sammi running gear under it on coils  :?
