Hi all.
I'm very new to the landy thing. (I have a Jeep)
My Hubby (Father-in-law in pic  ) bought a lightweight last night. I am trying to sort some insurance but having real strife.
What I need from you good people is some help with identifying it.
The confusion seems to stem from the fact that it's ex-mod. The green slip from the log book says
"Make: Land Rover
date of registration 01 12 1978 (DECL/D MANUF 1971)
Wheelplan: 2-AXLE-RIGID BODY
Taxation class: HISTORIC VEHICLE"
The reg is *** ***T
Any clues to telling me what it is?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Manda,
I believe it is a series 3 88" short wheel base airportable.
Who are you speaking to for insurance? This thread (http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?t=25498&highlight=insurance+renewal) may give you some pointers.
Typically, Adrian Flux seem to be fairly competitive especially if it is a limited mileage classic vehicle policy.
Don't forget to ask for a discount for being a mud-club member
Also, see the local pub meets section for the West Mids meet - Farmer Johns in Aldridge

It isn't a Series 3 Air Portable (aka, Lightweight).
It's a 88-inch (also known as short wheel base) Series 2A Air Protable (often refered to as a Lightweight instead of Air Portable).

Missed that bit - was looking at the demob date  I suppose the headlights should have given it away!
On that basis make sure it is registered with the DVLA as an historic vehicle for the free tax

For insurance try Barry Scott (http://forums.mud-club.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2426) on here
He is Mr. Greenlight Insurance (http://www.greenlightinsurance.com/) 8)
Did a damn good deal on mine :D
BTW - Landy looks good

If you've got to have a Landie, that's the one I'd have.
Cool truck guys. 8)

To insure one of these things are normally between 100-150 fully comp, depending on the mileage you want to do, non standard does effect it sometimes
btw there is nothing wrong having the secondary hadbrake on board on one of them
also the historic tax class means you dont have to pay for your road fund licence

I don't think it's a galved chassis, hammerited silver as far as I can tell.
I'll have a go at the insurance side of things on Monday. thanks again folks.
And thanks Cherry Bomb for the compliment.

Being a series 2a it should be tax exempt, if it isn't you may want to check the manufacture date (not registration date).
