The air con heat exchanger is behind the dashboard / centre console. It has two drain pipes that go down either side of the gearbox and have rubber "things" on the end.

Check that these are not clogged with mud, or in any other way blocked.

I had the same problem - basically, the exchanger doesn't drain off and you end up with steam coming out of the vents ... very alarming!!

My money is on this idea as well,

Ah, I have that too.   Alpngside the gearbox you say?

Might explain why the car mists up when I turn off the aircon.  The Micra does that too and I was assured it's fine by the dealer.

If it's the same problem I had - the rubber end bits were clogged with mud (can't imagine where that came from  ). I just pulled them off and - after the water finished flooding down my arm, the problem went away!

I still haven't put the rubber bits back on ... not too sure what purpose they serve!?

Yep, lay under the car and look up into the gearbox tunnel (either side). You should see a small-ish black rubber piece - just pull it off and get out of the way quick

Might stop water going the other way!!!!

i have got 2 pipes coming out of a/c unit going into  just 1 going out the passenger footwell  :?

its not blocked but it has been cable tied in such away as to trap water in the tube perhaps that was causing my mist problem?

I have a Discovery 300 ES and it has two pipes (one each side) that go to/through the transmission tunnel (or thereabouts). I don't know if the 200 series is different!?

Having the tube tied up is definitely not good! Can you see a hole (or two) where it should connect? From the underneath, can you see the rubber "things" I described earlier? You need to unblock the pipe and direct it outside somehow!

i think the 200 is different   probably redesigned because of this problem

i have 2 pipes coming out of box 1 is tied out of way so passenger doesnt hit it i guess .
it acts like a trap on a sink so i may just cut the tie and let it hang down  8)

the end of the pipe is just open so no rubber "things"

I would be surprised if there isn't a proper route for the pipe to reach outside the car (transmission tunnel being most obvious). Air Con generates moisture / water - it's got to go somewhere!?

the tubes are sometime looped in what looks like a knot to create a u bend sort of effect on some systems
