Post by: MK-90 on July 03, 2006, 13:59:02
Hey chaps,

A mate of mine has just bought a samurai. He is wanting to mod it a tad :D  and has asked me to find out what the biggest tyres he can fit on them are without hacking and lifting?

Any help appreciated:)

Also....just out of interest. What are they like offroad? Any common pit falls? Sorry i have no experiance with Zuks

Adam

Ps....we're going to go test it tomoz....camera and tow rope handy of course :D  :D

29's will go in if you cut the bumper hanger off. 31's with a couple of inches of lift, and the seams at the back of the arch folding over.

But 31's might foul the springs on full lock depending on offset and width. Then if you fit spacers, you might need to cut some of the arch away at the rear of the front arch.

I've seen someone with 235/75/r15s on a standard one. Only thing that he had done is cut the bumper hangers off.

A lot of it depends on how flexy your leafs are. My 205/16 diamond patteren still rub a little with 2" spring lift and a 2" body lift although I have got spacers and really flexy leafs  :D . They measure a true 29.5" bolted to the truck.

Mine is on 3" springs with 235/75x15's (approx. 31") but they are *really* stiff   They don't catch the arch, but would with more flex. They do, however, catch the springs on lock with 5mm spacers on them. I'll have to invest in some hugely expensive 'proper' spacers.

If you go for 'proper' spacers then remember that the PCD is the same as Jeep CJs 5 x 5 1/2 (139mm).

There are loads to choose from if you look at the likes of...

I've seen far too many broken studs when these spacer kits (with hexagonal extenders) are used on Mini's. I wouldn't ever recommend them on Mini's, so I am sure not going to use them on a 4x4.

Keep your eye on them Mart.

I used to run spacers, aircraft ally things, that bolted to your hub, and had a new set of studs pressed into the spacer that the wheel bolted to. NOT the shagnasty alloy cast things with the stud extensions of yesteryear.

Mine came from LA Supertrux, and I can recommend them. Never came loose/broke etc

Yeah, they are the ones.... painfully expensive! The spidertrax ones are a bit more realistic, but can't find anyone doing them in the UK.
