I'm sneaking in here under the cover of darkness as I've gone over to the dark side with a V8 Rangie while my Tdi Disco is under repair and having extra modifications added.
Anyway I digress.
My v8 (had to get that in again :) ) seems to struggle with quick acceleration from tickover to around 2,500 rev. One above 2,000 rev it'll scream up to nearer 5,000 but pull up for a junction and it'll die and you'll be lucky to pull away again. Once back up to 2,000 revs it's roar off like a scalded cat.
Any ideas folks? It's worse on Gas.
Anyone know of anyone with the gear to set it up near Nottingham.

Is that me in the Rangie crew now or will you not accept me for making Rangies look daft previously in my Disco? ;)

wot v8 3.5 or3.9
if its carb check oil in the to of the su,s
can make a differance but use 3in1 oil not eng oil
check ign timing and point ect
-
It's a 1984 3.5.
It only plays up when warmed up. It used to be AndyC's
I managed to find a few bits wrong with it which were causing the majority of his problems. Just stuck with this annoying stutter at low revs. The power drops off and it loses the revs. This eventually means it dies altogether. If you back off the throttle it will recover and tick over fine.

if su carbs check or change the diaframs in both carbs. as they could be on there way out it only takes a small hole in one to stop the needle from rising and letting fuel in
-
SU carbs are a problem for LPG as the pistons still need to rise to allow the air in, the best solution is to fit piston lifters but these cost money.
Anyway, check your timing and vac advance unit, spark quality and air leaks for starters.

I would guess that '84 is going to be an EFI.
I had a similar problem on my last one, bad news is the only way I could cure it (after trying 3 MAFS from the scrap pile) was a new ECU :(
I would however try cleaning the MAF sensor first prise the top off, some meths and a rag to clean the tracks and rotor tip, reaseal the lid on with silcone.

I had a similar problem to this, turned out to be the rotor arm starting to break down and earthing through the dizzy.

if you havnt already i would change HT stuff first. then look at the fuel system.
