What sort of paint should I use for my chassis S111 and what colour have you done your's?

I have a galvanised one but originally i was going to paint mine YELLOW :!: :D
This was because it makes it easier to spot any rust patches or holes on the chassis! (also because i like to be different!! :lol:)

If its a new galvanised one then I would opt for hammerite special metals primer followed by a topcoat of your favourite choice in black. I went for POR-15 chassis black myself and its come out ok but I should have sprayed the primer
On an older non-galv chassis its all about preperation. clean off any loose rust and degrease. make any weld repairs now then treat with a suitable rust treatment. The cheaper option would then be to go with red oxide primer followed by topcoat of hammerite smooth. If you're feeling flush then the POR-15 system is suppose to be pretty good but remember to follow the instructions to the letter and use the chassis black top coat as well.
In all cases I would go with BLACK.

Cheapest tin of hammerite in the shop happend to be yellow so yellow it has gone!

I am just painting not stripping down...anymore advice? can you get galv paint? or am I just being stupid? :? :shock: :D

well, you can get paint that sticks to galvanised metal, but I don't think that's what you were asking :)
then again, unless you're a fan of beans you might not want to ask me about what colour I'd paint a series :)

If your stripping down then easiest and probably cheapest is to use red oxide and cover with hammerite smooth.
The POR 15 system is supposed to be really good but it is pricey in comparision.
would be a good idea to waxoil the inside of the chassis as that is where most of alot of rust problems originate. You could also waxoil the outside but I'm not a huge fan of this as paint is easier to clean the mud off.

I'm not stripping it down! no thats hard work :lol: Next question...do I waxoyle before or after painting the outside???

my chassis is hammerite hammered blue, which i reckon looks pretty good!
goes well with my black bodywork.

I heard good things about galvafroid, so when, on my galv. chassis I had to grind the galv off for new engine mounts, I painted it with this & waxoil.

yep, 'cold zinc primer', it comes in spray cans, we use it at work, make sure the metal is really clean, a few coats, bobs your uncle and all that.

i just undersealed the lot :D
couldnt be botherd to get under their and paint it all nice just to go get it all dirty again
cleaned it all up, floor arches everything and went for it with the black stuff

A guy at work told me to red oxide it and then paint in chassis black, since my chassis has some paint left he said the red oxide will cover both??? is this the case??? will it cover both metal and paint and be alright? :(bloodshot):

Yes red oxide will cover both paint (as long as it is not cellulose based) and Metal just make sure there is no muck or Cellulose based paint on it or it will React and give air bubbles in the red oxide
A mate restored a Commer Q4 Truck and sprayed Red oxide on to the chassis and body after cleaning all the muck off and the paint on the chassis in sections was cellulose based paint and it created air bubbles and one burst and caught fire ruined the whole paint job (it is a Leathal Weapon if you spray red oxide in to an old tin of celulose thinners :lol: :lol: )

red oxide is top stuff, but not as good as the old stuff that had lead in it.

I have no idea what sort of paint was on it...its black with mud attached at the mo...
