I don't often get chance to use the cruise control but last week on a long run up the m/way tried to use it.
Depress the on button and the LED lit, but when the 'Set' button was clicked nothing happened.
Does anyone have any clue where i should start?
Thanks Marcus

On my 97 V8 ES the pipe for the actuator had perished and come adrift. On the V8 it runs on the passenger side along the wing top to a doofer behind the headlamp... a vacumme doofer wotsit thingy. Just check the pipe first. It's all soft rubber so if it has perished then usually a quick snip of an inch and bung it back on all be it slightly shorter and it works again.
If it's not that then dunno.
The actuator should be attached to the throttle cable under the bonnet if it helps to find it... then trace the thin black hoses from there. My guess is it's gone at the engine end... most heat and vibration here.

Fixed mine last night, at about 10:45 as it was p***ing me off. It had had an intermitant fault, sometime it worked ok. The sometimes it didn't work. Sometimes it switched itself off. I bought a new brake pedal switch, the one with the vac hose. It would have been a 5 minute job had LR not redisigned everything on the soft-dash just for the sake of it. Car works fine now, the switch had moved ouot of place and was not holding vacuum. You can check this be disconnecting the pipe near the actuator as see if it holds vacuum.

i,ve given up fixing mine, its always the ends of the vacuum hoses that perish where they connect to something

I think most of the faults on CC are the vac hoses, it's a common thing as the car ages. For what it costs though it's worth fixing surely, just get some new hose. Even washer hose would work at a pinch (used it for vacuum gauges before now).
Do the older RR still have the vac pump or does the CC work from engine vacuum?

I just keep snipping a half inch or so off the old vacuum pipe everytime it perishes, one of these days the pipe will be too short and I'll have to spend money

Thanx guys, it sounds like I need to sort out the vac hose. That will keep me busy at the weekend. I'll let you know if it works.
