Hi all
Just woundering what the top speed of an sj 413 is as i can only get 50 out of it ! 60 if i'm going down hill with a following wind!!!!!
Anybody any idea , i've changed the plugs and ht leads as they fell apart when i pulled them off but that hasn't made any differance.
cheers ian

to be fair that sounds about right.
I could just squeeze a tiny bit over the legal limit down hill into Sheffield on the M1.
On the level tho, Im guessing 60 is pretty much maxed out.
Dont believe anyone who claims 80's and 90's!
Even with Dti power I can only do 80ish on flat
-
i've had nearly 70 on the motorway but allowing for speedo error could have been above or below 70, there made for going everywhere but not in a hurry , aerodynamics of a house brick spring to mind
-
managed to get the wobbly spedo to read 65 when going to avon dassett last month, hum may have had some bearing on the problems i have now
-
I've been approximately 145kph (speedo stops around there). I did have a bit of help though: I was about 1-2 metres behind a very large truck (which was obviously in a hurry to be somewhere.) Scary stuff.
In normal circumstances I can do just under 120kph.

145KPH!!!!   That's 90mph, you must be nuts!! Thats a bloody quick lorry too, where are you from?
My old 410 used to reach about 55/60 down the by bass, not sure what the speed actually was due to tire size probably 65 tops. It felt like it was going to break the sound barrier. :D
-
i got an indicated 75mph in my 410 with a 4"lift and 31's although it was downhill
-
hi mate ive got a weber on mine and only got 70 tops ive never dared look going down hill that is with a 3" kalmini lift and 2"body lift so not all that stable at speed id say 60 safely regards nick
-
When I picked up my last 413 (totally stock appart from the Webber!!) I had to ring my mate who was following me to check the speedo reading was correct!!
I had an indicated 87mph and so did my mates new MR2 roadster!! :D :D :D
-
When i get an MOT i'm going to test mine.
I might see if the Stig will take it round the track!
-
Top speed is all dependent on the condition of the engine.
I have had just over 80mph out of a 410 running 31's, and that was on gps, the speedo was way out, standard engine, but very well looked after.
I have seen 98mph in my old zuk when powered by the cavalier SRi engine running 31's on stock samurai gearing, again on gps. When it had the 1.6 before, somedays it would struggle to sit at 70 on the motorway.
Never trust a suzuki speedo, there about as good as the std carb's they fitted to the 1.3.

Try the A14, between Ipswich and Cambridge, 6:30 am just after the Stena Line Overnight fron the hook...... or even better, 7:30 / 8pm when a Dutch Flower Truck is late for the Boat Home!!
I Honestly have been passed by a very spectaular dutch flower truck at 90mph + on this road, they have the bigest engines going, and look the dog's, air flow kits, the lot!
Bac to Speed, According to V8moneypit my 410 does about 65 in top!

And pulls 1.5g around corners...... before the back wheel leaves the ground
Actually, I seem to remember we were doing 55-60 when you said that was about the limit! Mine has got up to about 70mph, but it ain't a happy bunny at that speed. Much more relaxed at about 50.
-
Thanks for all your comments might try a new carb. hopefully might get 65 out of her. being over took by lorry's on the motorway is very scary !!!!!
-
Driving an SJ is scary at the best of times, mate
-
especially on a motorway with a strong sidewind you get blown all over the place
-
Got up to 65 yesterday unfortunately i was attched to the back of my car with a friend driving. Feels remarkably unsafe when you are only 5ft behind someone!
Anyway no more talk of speed from me. Getting banned again on the 5th of July. It's weird how the police and i differ on our views of what is and what isn't acceptable!
I wonder if the court are going to be a little more understanding.....

Depends on a lot as everyone else says, I have seen 92mph in completely standard 413, and seen an estimated 105mph in a 416 obviously only estimated taking into account bigger tyre size.
Check compression, ignition timing 10 btdc, air filter, tyre pressures, wheel bearings, and don't foget to check vacumn advance retard is working and that there is no perished pipe work on it! Also check to make sure exhaust, is not dented restricting exhaust gases.
Timi 8)
