Title: Immobilsers
Post by: drum on June 08, 2006, 10:49:50
Okay my insurance insist that I fit a Cat 2 Immobilser to the 110.

Anybody got any recommendations for any that can live up to life in an off roaded 110 on a regular basis??

Also are there any that do not require a stupid little key fob to touched against a panel, preferably interface to the existing alarm system. (Factory Fitted on a 54 plate defender)

Have you looked into changing your insurance company? Or are you tied in with the existing one?

TOAD

Ive had a toad alarm/immobiliser for the last 4 years or so.
Never had a false alarm with it, puts up with any abuse Ive evr thrown at it, its insurance approved, and so far hasn't even had a replacement fob battery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recommended!!

I'll agree with that - TOAD. I got a Cat2 on the 110, it's a stand alone device (doesn't link in to the factory system), so actually gives you 2 forms of immobilisation. The one I have has a little dangly bit that hangs on the key ring and needs to be close to the ignition barrel to de-immob the truck.

Cost me about £90 fitted - you need it fitted by an approved engineer to get the Thatcham certificate that your insurance co will want.

Well if that's on the Zuke, that a fair recommendation, think it gets similar abuse to what the 110 gets :D

you might have to dispense with the factory fit device or have you spoken to LR about one? i would have thought that the standard fit alarm wouldinclude some for of immobilisation.. might be worth checking up before you go spending.

...also  highly recommend toad ;)

The LR factory fit alarm/immob on Defenders are not listed on the Insurance companies Thatcham approved list - probably cos some little scrote somewhere forgot to enter the details
