Disco or Defender 110 CSW
that's the choice I'm trying make ... I need you lot to help me, tell me the good, bad and ugly bits about owning either.
My young fella BeJay has a fully off road equipped Disco which I like lots ... but ... I've got a soft spot for the 110 CSW .... I want a toy of me own and :x oooh I don't know which one to pick!
Whichever of the two I choose, I want a truck for me to go out, play and get dirty in,  and of course, for doing the mundane tasks like the school runs and shopping  ... it also needs to be roomy, a must with 3 kids and all their rubbi ... er stuff
Looking forward to reading your advice :)

Ive got a Disco but have a dream to have a 110 csw.
My two kids (5 and 3) can easily fill the disco rear especially as we also have a doggy, if I was buying the disco again I would go for the 110 instead.

As the owner of a 110 CSW I can say you would not be dis appionted.
I've noly had mine since tuesday but already it's proving to be a great vehicle, huge, alright to drive and pretty refined actually. 12 seats so no need to worry about carrying a few extra, and you get the LR Charm.
CSWs ain't as common as they once were now, especially as some of the older engines are reaching the end of their life, but if you can find a nice one like I have then you will not be un happy with it.
Cheers,
David.

110!
how can you fault a car thats been pretty much the same from factory over so many years!
pick condition over age/miles. sure the guys on here will be able to point out any common checks on the 110 ;)
-
110 CSW without a doubt. It is my dream car and I WILL have one of my own one day.
-
you'll get a much better disco for your money, how ever much you want to spend... i just sold my knackered 'M' reg 110 hardtop for 3K, and bought an imaculate 'N' disco 300tdi for £2200... with around half the miles on the clock that the defender had....
if money was no object i'd buy the cleanest, nicest 300Tdi 110 csw i could find.. but in the mean time i'll make do with the disco.
the disco is a loverly motor, nice to drive and much more comfortable than the defender, but i found the defender easier to work on, as it was a lot higher off the ground, and a lot simpler..
the defender was also a lot easier to modify... as you could just screw stuff wherever you like...
the disco would also damage easier (wider bodywork) and look scruffier when you dent it...
we are going to morocco in august, and we decided it would be a nicer drive in the disco than in the defender..
not a lot of help, but a few random thoughts..

The heart says go for the 110CSW, proper Landie!!
However, the head says Disco. You will get much more for your money to start with and any mods you might want to do for off roading are now around the same price as you would pay for a 110. Plenty of room in a Disco for 3 kiddies and a weeks shopping and if you get a roof rack and a bike carrier to slot on when needed you've no problem with a weeks camping trip either.
Like any Landie look for condition and service history rather than age. Our 200tdi is in better condition than many 300's around.

Like so many I'de love a 110csw.. but my disco is great for dragging three kids around in.. it was cheap to buy, not bad on fuel and is comfortable on those long hauls and over the moors when we dissapear for the weekend..
There is plenty of room for the kids rubbi... .. things... and they don't bicker in the disco..
But I still find myself regretting that I didnt get a csw...
Not a lot of help, I know, but thats my two penny worth..

110 So versatile.
-
After owning 2 disco's now i'd love a 110.
I've got a bit of a soft spot for them.
Great rugged looking cars and load's of spare's and bolt on's avalible.
:D
-
without being nosey, what sort of money do you want to spend?
if its £3K... get a disco, as you'll get a peach for that... but an absolute dog of a 110CSW...
if its £15K... you'll get a realy nice disco or 110CSW......
m@tt.

Buy a 110 CSW
Infinately more kid-proof
I've had a Discovery; a fine car & very capable, but somehow..................
As has been stated, you'll find a much better Discovery for the same money.
More made, hence more to choose from

:(contented): Thanks everyone for your input ... I think I have made up my mind ... possibly maybe
I have seen a very nice Disco which is very off road ready ... winch, snorkel, muds etc etc ...
But then ....
I've also seen two very nice 110 CSW's ... both in good condition, one has some off road mods and is very tidy inside ... the other is in good condition and recently had a respray (A truck I could throw the kids in and lose them there's so much space!!! Perfect for all their cra ... belongings )
Soooooo ...
I HAVE to do sensible , I'm gonna go visit a LR sales place and have a good look round the Disco's and Defenders they got, do the head in the bonnet and bum in seat thing to see which 'feels' me ( [-o< the CSW ... the CSW ... please let it be the CSW [-o< )
Which means ...
money in the bank pending and decision finally made ... I should be the proud mummy before the month is out. :(biggrin): [/b]
Will let you all know and do the pic thing when I got my new baby
.... watch this space :D

i like the feel of....

Comparing back to back, you'll undoubtedly find the 110 lower-geared, poorer steering lock, noisier, verylittle elbow room in front, cramped for 3 adults (with low seat backs ) in the middle-row.
But I wish I'd never sold my old 110, & I'm infinately glad I bought my CSW
-
:D Thanks all for all your advice, I went for condition over age as BTM suggested.
I went for a 110 CSW with a few mods  .....

Hope you don't mind :)
Not at all ... :D
-
It looks like someones put in a lot of time and effort, and I hope it works out every bit as good as you want it to.
For me, something like that, it's had half the fun already taken out with it having been modded already, I like a blank canvas to work from.

... it's had half the fun already taken out with it having been modded already, I like a blank canvas to work from.
Not being very mech minded I'm quite happy to have had the mods done already ... all my fun will be learning to drive off the tarmac ... got a learners day all lined up, thanks to my young man :D
I'm just pondering over a name ... cos that's the difficult bit!!!
-
Very nice 8) you might struggle to find that in sainburys car park though
-
I'm just pondering over a name ... cos that's the difficult bit!!!
How about "Jaffa" or "Clementine"
-
I was thinking Tango.
-
BeJay and the kids cracked up when I suggested The Tangerine Machine :D  :D
-
good choice mate looking very nice :D
-
Very, very, very nice!!!
I've owned 3 110's, love em
Jeff
-
Very tasty machine, with a damn good specification
The galvanised chassis is a definate plus
Well done =D> =D>
Names :-k
I was thinking Tango.
Too obvious
Think laterally
Droog, as in (Clockwork) Orange
Stanley (as in Kubrik, director of 'C-O'?)
Cash (as in the fim; 'Tango & ....')
Terry (as in a Chocolate Orange)
-
Very nice looking truck with some nice additions.
I had a camel styled one for a while and although I blew the engine twice I still miss it.
Great looking beasts.
-
Currently have two 110's. love em both (had a Disco, nice motor but ran out of room in it too easily plus swmbo disliked it as it was too car like)
Saw yours at Eastnor a few weeks back, looked very nice in 'person'.
Lee
PS, you will never sell it, not because you can't (I'd buy it, nowt wrong with three 110's) but because you will think of it as family and probably love it more :D
-
:) well done looks great :) are ya bringing it to the bash to show off
-
Man I'm so
-
Very nice looking 110, good choice. 8)
Enjoy.....let us know when you have picked a name :D
