Title: Safari Snorkel Question
Post by: Disco Bristol on May 21, 2006, 23:45:19
I just fitted a Safari Snorkel to my Disco, what happens when there is horizontal rain, or you are driving in the rain, surely the rain is going to enter the Snorkel. And now that I have sealed all the drain holes on the filter box, there is only one place for the water to go...the engine.

Am I missing something apart from the fact you can rotate the head? I cant keen on rotating the head every time it rains and the wind changes direction. :!:  :!:

If you look at the op of the snorkle you will see drain holes around the outside of it, near the bottom. When you're driving in rain the air entering the intake forms a vortex and throws and water to the outside of the intake, the water then runs out of the drain holes and not into the engine.

Well, that's what Safari say.

I've had a Safari Snorkle on the Disco for a few years now and had no problems with water even getting to the filter.
If anyone lived in an area that gets plenty of horizontal rain then it would be me. We're not known for our lack of wind & rain in the Outer Hebrides!!

I turned the hosepipe on mine (oh criky, keep quiet about that) and none of it gets to the filter.

RRB - Does this mean I'm safe to drive through a car wash?  My Disco fits in the local Tesco car wash, but I've always used the manual one since the snorkel was fitted, just in case.
