i went to reveres the landy today and it wouldnt go in to reverse so i took all the floor and tansmittion tunnel out to find something laying on top of the gate.

Any guess on what it is??

Looks to me as though the last owner didnt want anyone to drive away with it. Is it some form of gear lock. To prevent you selection the opposite direction to how its parked in his drive. :)
Could be wrong though. A better piccy might help. :)

DIfficult to say, when it is down does it just cover the reverse selector or more than one, it could be the thingy to make it difficult to engage reverse by mistake, and may be knackered.

There should be 2 springs on it. When reverse is selected the gear lever pushes against it forcing the springs to stretch and reverse gear to be selected. Without the springs reverse could be selected instead of 1st :wink:

just as andy says. i had trouble with mine aswell the boltchanges the angle wen its shut.
