Been to look at some cars today, basically to trade in the Discovery V8 (M). Saw a couple of freelanders. Both on a V Plate, a 1.8 one and td4. Both with 5 doors.
Don't know a great deal about these, worthwhile ? The 1.8 was about £7k and the Td4 £10k. Offered £1,400 trade in on the Discovery :(
What sort of economy do these do ?
TIA
Damian

My advice at this time is :
Avoid buying secondhand Freelander so close to launch of new one.
I got £4500 for my 2001 V6.
Cat (the LPG V8) is worth more than £1400 on the normal market.
Sell Cat privately and buy a non-LR :-)

the 1.8i petrol can be troublesome, allthough some people have had no problems, the td4 is the better one(see PARKERS car guide)mind you 10 k for a v reg is very expensive,I paid 8000k for a y reg 2001 low millage with full history, hope this helps

Td4 everytime !
Just 'knocking about' = 31-32mpg, but much better on a run
£10K for a Vreg is VERY expensive - even for ES trim
Avoid the 1.8 petrol - dirt cheap to buy though, but potential problems. My mate's selling a 2001 soft back 1.8 cos he's just got a new job n co car (local 4x4 dealer doesn't want to know the Freelander cos its the 1.8)!
He's after c.£5K for it

We paid £9k for a 51 plate 3dr TD4 with 35k on the clock. Air con, alloys, electric windows, electric mirrors, etc.
It is fair to say the 5 door will fetch more, but 10K for a 'V' does sound a bit on the steep side. Especially for a petrol. TD4's will always hold a premium over the petrol.

Current Freelander prices are going to drop - majorly. The poor reliability of the petrols has rubbed off on the diesels (i.e. people know there is a problem and are not researching into which model it is).
The new one is soon to be with us - hence the dealers knocking off £2500 BEFORE you even start haggling.
As I said above - dealer did not really want ours - GS Spec Station Wagon 5 door, all extras and only 40,000 miles.....Y plate for £4,500 :(

When is the new Freeloader due out?

Think it offically goes on sale "this autumn"

Nah, Ford are in charge now - one of the best marketing machines!
Reckon they'll have the "56" plate change 1 Sept, then either launch new Freelander towards end of Oct or 1st week of November.

Ive just got my first landrover, and its brill. Its a brand new (well 2 month old) Freelander, has done 800 miles on the clock. Its a 2.0 TD4 Aventurer, and cost £14999. I think I got a bargain, compaired to the prices quoted at the start of the topic.
