i'm having my front windscreen replaced on wednesday just a thought as i don't have a heated front windscreen would it be poss to have one fitted then wire it up to work after it has be fitted
the windscreen company asked if it was heated or not,i'm thinking of ringing them back and telling them that it's heated if it's easy to make work [-o<

There was an article in a recent mag about one of the "staff car" defenders getting a heated screen, once its fitted you'll have two heavy wires coming from it, one side simply goes to earth, the other you just pop power to via a 40a relay and switch and of course suitable gauge of cable.
Nothing complex about them.

Depends on the vehicle - and the insurance company (if one is involved !) The cost of a heated screen for a D2 is way over £500 (so the man told me), but a non-heated is far cheaper.........so if you're getting a new screen cos your old one is cracked (and hence you are claiming on the insurance) they will only swap like for like.
My first D2 had the dash switch, relays and wiring for a heated screen - but no heated screen. Got it changed when it cracked, the glass guy (Autoglass I think) wasn't going to fit the heated one at first, but then when he saw the wiring and switch said "looks like the car was built with one originally, so I'll fit one".............if only he knew that I'd fitted the switch and relays the day before, and all D2's come with the wiring in place

Jimbo - I'm thinking about doing the same thing in my 300 Tdi. Do you know if there is a "parts list" I'd need? There are two connectors already in place at the bottom of the screen (top of the bulk head), and looking at it, all I need is a relay and a switch (and the heated screen!).

I just went into the stealers and asked for 'a Td5 Disco heated front screen switch', then using the wiring diagrams from RAVE worked out which fuses and relays were needed (luckily I only needed the fuses or was it the relays - can't remember :? ). What I failed to mention in my earlier post was that on a Td5 you'll need the option enabling using Testbook or similar, but not a 300Tdi I guess :D
For info, the fuses are 30A each - one for the drivers side feed, and one for the passenger side feed. Other than the switching wiring which is somehow ECU controlled, it's basically a relayed controlled 30A 12V supply to each side of the screen - the ECU does add a timer into the control circuit somewhere, about 5 mins 'on' time for the screen. That's ample to defrost a frozen screen though !

I need to bump this one.
A friend of mine with a 1998 3dr auto D1 would like to put in a Heated front screen and is looking around for the wiring ddiagram.
Not having a RAVE disc can anyone help out at all please?
-
Don't have the diagram to hand - but you can download the RAVE CD for the series 1 Disco from my web site (http://www.horness.com/discovery/). (It's pretty big, so a high speed connection is required).
EDIT - is this any use? Heated Front Screen Wiring Diagram (http://www.horness.com/discovery/pdfs/heatedfrontscreen.pdf) - Taken from the RAVE CD.
-
I wouldn't mind doing this... I need a new rear screen anyway as the element is shot to pieces and the front is so scratched it's hard to see through it when the suns on it!
Where would the switch be for heated front screen on an early Disco 1 200 series V8??
Is the wiring in place on the early models and if not, where abouts would one 'plant' the terminals, and what size terminals are they???
Cheers

Look in the Haynes manual fror a RRC for the wiring diagram.
I asked how much my heated screen would be for the LSE
£456 from a stealer, bonded or otherwise, same price.
The glass company told me they charged my insurance £826 for a glass, fitted  :o
Think twice about trying to scam that off the insurance.

Thanks for that Horness.
Much obliged.
