Hi to all im new at this (computers and landrovers)And im in need of a LOT of advice and knowlige
I bought my first landy s11a last month and have decided to have a isuzu 2.8t fitted .Knowing i will need to uprate the brakes but i am not sure wether to go for rangey axels and springs or to just buy the disc brake conversion kit any advice welcome[/b]

:D in the feb issue of landrover international magazine there is a vented disc kit for series l/r £650 tel 07854399124 if you dont want to change the axles
-
Cheers i'll look in to that
-
i was thinking the rr route for axles, anyone actually done the conversion, if so how hard is it?
-
I have done the range rover axle conversion, The rear axle is really simple, all you have to do is to make up some spring platforms or swap them off of your old axle. The front is altogether a differant kettle fish and there are many differant ways in which to go about it. The problem is that the rear steering linkage on the range rover axle lines up perfectly with the leaf springs. If you want to go down this route then i will give you all of the details of what you wil need to do.

pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez
:D

It might be worth using rr axles elvis because then you won't be snapping half shafts on the series axle with that extra power, plus if you put coil springs on the ride will be much comfier.
-
I have deeply thought about this and because of the engine i will change the gear box then with the axels I will be loosing to many points to keep my regisration and tax exemption
All that will be original will be chassis and bulkhead not sure on points then?
-
keep the leaf springs, dont change to coil and thats an extra 2 points
chassis is 5, and you need 8
i think the the steering counts for 2 as well, so as long as you dont go to power steering you'll be fine

Why have you decided to fit the Isuzu 2.8T? What engine is in the 2A? The standard engine should be more than adaquate, but if you're wanting performance of a modern car on-road, then a Series it not for you.

One thing aren't the rangy axles wider than series?
wheels sticking out?

Hi hobbit im pretty sure there is 4'' difference in width but that is not a bad thing i dont think (better stability)

You would have to fit eyebrows/wheel-arch extensions.

with the right rims/tyres, you can get away with it, looks damn good too

Thought so, this is why
wrong angle but the chassis & axles are rrc, even with 7.50's on they only just come in the flares
These are 265/75x16s they stuck right out (fail mot and attract any police following you with nothing better to do), the other pic on 7.50's
Even on thins, you need a substantial flare to do the job,

The rangi axles are 4" wider than the series for a start. As i said before the rear is really easy, all you have to do is to cut the spring platforms off of your old axles and weld them back on to the rangi axle (after you have cut off all the rangi brakets and measured from the discs to the spring mountings that is).
The front, There are several ways in which to tackle this if you want to keep your leafs.
1. You can get a left hand drive swivel housing so that you can put the steering drag link on the front of the axle and use rose joints, (Expensive)
2. You can make some 5mm - 10mm spacers that go between the springs and the axles which will give you almost the correct diff angle as a rangi axle sits 10 degrees nose up, (But will lower the front end so you have to do some work to lift the front back up).
3. You can cut the drag link and make an odd shaped item to go around the diff and the leaf springs. (Dangerous)
4. You can have some special shackles made that kink the diff backwards in order to bring the caster angle back. (Works but is a compramise).
Personnally i have seen them all and they all work, i used a combination of 2 of them, which are the shackles and the spacers, as 1 if you go for the rose jointed option it no longer becomes a cheap conversion and you may as well buy the disc conversion kit, or 2 if you cut the drag link, it could snap, bend or jam up and i use my series on the motorway and i don't feel that my safety and that of any body else should rest on my welding abilities and remanufactured steering components.
If you are still interested let me know and i will pm the details.
