Post by: sulley on February 11, 2006, 13:10:06
Is there some kind of trick to this that I don't know about???

Mine just will NOT budge.

Give us a clue before I stick something through it!!!

If its one of these, more than likely its stuck on the seal, fitting it dry normally can cause this same as on an oil filter.

You need to try a filter strap, or if you can get a pair of large water pump pliers in there.

If not try some rubber gloves for more grip or a towel round it.

Whacking a screwdriver is a last resort, and unless youre machine is running bad I would recommend taking it somewhere or someone to help you with it.

btw, get the engine up to running temp before taking it off, and refill the new filter with fuel before fitting. Also smear some diesel round the seal before fitting new filter

Clean engine oil or thin film of grease (not big blobs) is better for putting on the seal to prevent the same thing happening next time   as diesel will dry out.

Now sorted.

Used a chain style filter wrench jobbie.  Eventually moved!!
