Title: Smoking TDi
Post by: MTyrrell on February 10, 2006, 22:40:16
I have noticed that the disco Tdi in my 110 is smoking a bit :x  .

You can't see it much in the day but at night there's quite a grey cloud shown up by the cars behind headlights. it's also is using a bit of oil.

Any pointers on how to find what's causing it. Its a Disco 200TDi with 110000m on it.

Would put a compression tester on it but i haven't got access to one any more.

If it's light grey smoke then it's fine, I get it with mine as well and, like you, I can't see anything during the day. Although the injector pump on mine has been played with and I have a larger intercooler.

If it's dark grey/black smoke then you're using too much fuel and the injector pump or injectors could need looking at.

Thanks, was beginning to think I'd replaced a duff engine with something as equity broke.

Might treat the old girl to a new fuel/air filter, nearly due for renewal anyway.

all of mine have done it too - well within tollerance on emmissions test so dont worry about it :)
