Title: Have I got a bargain?
Post by: Spacemud on February 08, 2006, 22:05:55
Bought this 109 safari off ebay for £127 (it was in the parts section!). First registered March 1973, so I'm hoping it'll be tax exempt, no brakes but started ok and drove on to the trailer no problem. Bodywork looks fine, bushes need replacing, needs a new skylight.

What do you reckon, what's the potential problems???

I think you know what you should do if you want to live in the house and not the Land Rover!!!! [-X

You have a discovery and might have a series 2 if you paint this one pink for me!!!!!!  :(biglove):

The image won't load for me, sadly.

Two most critical things to look out for on these Series vehicles, is the chassis and bulkhead.  You might be lucky in that it is tax exempt, but it would only be tax exempt if you could prove it was built and used prior to 1973.  If it was built prior to 1973 but used in 1973, then it is no tax exemption on this vehicle.

What engine is it?

Title: sell it
Post by: clairedave on February 12, 2006, 09:17:38
we used to buy and sell s3 and we only ever bought 109 s for parts, doors gearbox, wheels ect as no one wants them. titanic could turn round better than a long wheel base you make more money selling it in bits, we used to weigh in alloy bits

Hi not sure yet. gonna get her driveable first, well to be more accurate stoppable, then see what needs doing for an MOT and decide whether it's going to be too expensive. Chassis looks really solid as does the bulkhead, needs new springs though. To be honest there isn't really much on them to go wrong and parts seem very cheap. There was a feature in one of the Landy magazines recently on a bloke who did one up for £4000 and I reckon I could do it far, far, cheaper than that.

Bezzabsa, trailer is the brother in laws and don't think he would be up for letting it out to anyone. I did have an offer from a mud clubber who has a trailer though, and he doesn't live far from you. Can't volunteer him myself but might be worth putting a post on here if you need something moving. He'll probably volunteer, seems a really decent bloke.........................aren't we all?!!

What the hell are you talking about? If the vehicle was built in 1972 and reg 1973 it would be tax free - it might have been built 72 and not registered until 2006 and it would still be tax free! Tax exepmtion goes on BUILD date, the reg date is totally irrelevent.

not quite,it could have a different engine but still be tax exempt through the points system for the rest of the vehicle
