A workable & reliable combination?

I'd filled the Discovery up a few times there when passing, but when I've passed I don't think I've ever seen a Td5 (Defender, or, Discovery) in there - it maybe just the timing, but.........
Are there any issues with the Electronic injectors (& pump?) on a Td5 that inhibits useage of Bio-Diesel?????
If I perhaps operate at a 50 - 50 mix with regular pump diesel?
As I'm going that way next Wednesday & it's a fair bit cheaper

well i dont know if there are any issues but we have a customer who says he uses it all the time in his td5 disco :?

There's a producer local to me, so far everyone I've asked reckons that it shouldn't cause any problems in a Td5
Anyone in the trade (Mikee where are you) care to comment ?

Strange. I'm sure I read somewhere not to use bio in a TD5.

It's a bit of a mixed bad according to google and 'td5 biodiesel' :wink:
There appears to be some talk of invalidating LR warranty if it is used :?

But if the warranty has expired.......
Shame if Td5's can't hack biodiesel, they only want 80p/litre at the place near me - beats the 95p I had to pay t'other day (only put a few quids worth in though, just enough to get to the cheaper garage)

TD5's & bio along with Td4's is well not the best idea
so far seen a TD4 need 2 fuel pumps in 2 weeks after running on bio (or VO & diesel mix)
the older tdis with mechanical pumps run fine on the stuff but not so sure about the newer stuff with the lecky fuel pumps

BEWARE.
I cant comment on Landrover TD5 products, but Ive seen many problems with it in other cars.
I work in a Hyundai , and Toyota main dealer, and Ive seen several cars that have run on Bio and have destroyed the lift pump in the tank.
We dont know why, maybe its thicker , or partially seperates in the tank, but Bio was definitely at fault.
The newer diesels dont even like the addition of Kerosene, destroys the high pressure pump.
IMHO Id only run an older 'traditional' type diesel on bio, the newer ones with direct injection seem far more delicate........

I've been looking into the feasability of producing my own Bio-diesel, so i've done a lot of reading up on it. As far as I can tell theres a HUGE difference between real Bio-diesel and straight Veg Oil (SVO) and many people get the two confused. Veg oil on its own will work in a diesel engine but if its cold enough it will be to thick to be pumped.
Bio is made from mixing Caustic Soda and methanol to the Veg oil then washing it all through to remove any soapy deposits.
So if the process isn't carried out accuratly enough it can cause probs, So it depends if you trust the source of the Bio :lol:
I'm still trying to work out if its a worthwile business venture :wink:
