I need to replace the timing belt on a 300 TDi! I have the replacement belt and have heard you can get locating pins to ensure the cogs are locked in place. Is this true and if so where can I get them from?
-
Pretty sure difflock sell them.
Or ask around on here... you might be able to hire a set for the right amount of beer
-
i have the landrover part no's here as listed on autodata not sure if they tally up with other suppliers...
crank pulley/damper holding tool ... lrt-12-080
flywheel timing pin lrt-12-044
injection pump timing pin lrt-12-045
these are listed on the autodata program for the 300 tdi so you will have to check em with the landrover parts catologue people

OK blonde moment! You telling me I should remove the gearbox to get to the flywheel? Won't the Crank pin work for that one?
-
The fly wheel pin goes in the little hole in the bottom of the gearbox bell housing and locks the fly wheel.
-
apparently there is a blanking plug in the lower bell housing, but this is what autodata tells me, ive never done one, but im sure the lads on here have done many
-
That's right, Where you should fit your wading plug if you go wading.

Any improvs for the other locking pins (an 8mm drill bit I can muster!
My Yorkshire tendancies are coming out!
I AM NOT ASHAMED.
-
Your best off borrowing the proper kit if you can...
Alot can go wrong if it's not done right.
-
OK, makes sense, apart from Land Rover. Does anyone else do the kits? I wanted to get the job done this week before all the rad and intercooler go in!
-
I've got the full Difflock kit - including the correct locking bar (better than using a breaker bar and the starter motor to undo the damper bolt)
Well worth the money!!!

hiya,
please fogive my ignorance, but i have just had replaced my cam belt on my 300tdi, didnt use any of the posh locking pins or gadgets, just used one of the bolts from the cam belt cover plate to lock the injector pump, timing belt off new one on, fair enough the man that changed the belt is a fantastic mechanic with lots of experience but none of the pins, locking things or gadgets were used....................cam belts get one from your local automotive dealer £15.00 + vat, made by Dayco (these are the belts that Landrover use and sell for about £30 plus.................
all the best
