Right: i need a steering guard for the racer ,it has to be steel & cheap as it will be getting tailerd to the new chassis legs,
any suggestions??
also need to fit twin front shocks back to the motor after the priginal twin setup sheared off :oops: at the last comp,not wanting to spend a fortune at the mo with crimbo comeing up BUT the motor has to be ready for boxing day

just had a thought, A MEDIA vest as used on the BRc will do as they are indestructable

Southdown gurad is VERY strong but I dont think its that cheap, have a word with Tim :wink:

my dads offered to 'lend' me his southdown one of his 110 but i would have to replace it,so better off looking for my own to start with

I would say don't worry about the steering guard, just use uprated rods/links.
I'll try and get you some photos of my shocker set up. Bit agricultural, but certainly does the trick!

im not bothered about agricultural,i have 13 days to finish it in,for doin the trials a guard would be better as i can grind up to the clear gates :wink:

Hang on a second - I'm not the one with the 35+" Simexes! :lol:
Mike, I don't really understand the benefit of a steering guard. From what I can see they don't really add that much protection and they are extra weight and something else to get hung up on!
It tends to be the drag link that bends anyway and a steering guard certainly doesn't protect that.

imho its always the track rod that gets banana-ed. So make that as over engineered as possible. The only advantage of most steering guards is that they push debris down and away from the steering box and drop arm (oh and they do horrible things to pheasants too). The next most vulnerable thing is the diff casing.

Track rod is sumo barred & diff casing is reinforced on the crown with 6mm flat bar,,need to pur something in the gap :wink:

just bought the ell cheepo guard from rebel, (http://www.rebel4x4.co.uk/media/photos/new_steering_guard_bolt_small.jpg)
now gonna atattch the racer to it & give it a pasting,means i know only have to make a recocvery point & the racer can go back out toplay

got the guard today & instead of the bolt together one ive got the welded one pice 1 :evil: oh well,does the same job,away to trial fit it tonight
