Title: Heater control lights
Post by: Cal on November 24, 2005, 14:05:50
Hi everyone,

I've got a '94 Disco and the lights behind the heater controls and fan speed slider have stopped working. I'm sure they were all working on Sunday evening but haven't worked all week.

Apologies if I'm being stoopid ( :?   ), but I've had a look in the handbook and any fuses seem to relate to the whole heater unit for example and not the lights.

Has anyone got any suggestions? Could it be a wiring problem, or am I just reading the manual incorrectly?

Thanks,

Cal

I wouldn't be suprised if the bulbs have blown, they are easy to get to though, if you pull the knobs off, there are a couple of screws that become visible.

With the bulbs exposed you can use a multimeter to check for a current

Thanks Tim - it was all of them though - is that likely to be bulbs?

Hmmm, possibly not then, unless by one blowing it has put more current into the others and hence shortening there lives.

It's still a simple process though to take the front off and see if there is power, obviously if there is then the bulbs are at fault, if there isn't you need to trace it back further (either down the wiring or back to the fuses).

Good luck!

Cheers Tim.

This could be interesting, as I'm the first to admit just how poor my mechanical/DIY "skills" are!!

I'm assuming you have a 300tdi later type disco cal.

If so the 3 rotary knobs just pull off, behind them are 2 screws, remove these and the panal will come off. Behind you will find a single bulb in the center which illuminates the whole panal. its a small capless one, Replace it, job done.
Have fun

Hiya,

Yeah, I've got a 300Tdi. Reckon I've got an interesting weekend ahead - reckon I might need a new battery if this cold snap is as bad as they reckon it will be, a brake light needs replacing, antifreeze needs topping up and the heater control bulb to do!

Beats sitting in front of the telly!!

Cheers,

Cal
