Hi, picked up a stone chip in middle of windscreen,
and was wondering if its possible to fit a heated screen instead of the one in now,
I think there should be a plug/lead somewhere to connect screen, but where would it be and can it be done.

On the Rangie there are 2 plugs either side of the rear veiw mirror and 2 on the A posts that need a small amopunt of trimming. It's often done on Rangies so I don't see why not on a Disco, if you can find one......

i have one on my 200 disco......its not wired though. the screen was already fitted when i bought her. i can see the connectors hanging behind the mirror and one in each bottom corner. i have not looked for the connectors yet. i have often wondered about connecting it up though......

I recently spoke to a landrover mech about this
There are 2 plugs below the screen under the bonnet, one on each side. The its a matter of fitting the switch in the dash and asking them to switch the function on in testbook. Some will need a relay fitting

I thought the screen would be switched on with the rear screen and mirrors.
Might ask the windscreen people to fit a heated screen then late I'll have a look for the connections.

Colin,
They are on a spearate switch, a *much* shorter timer - i.e. it will switch itself off (unlike the rear one). This is due to the massive load it puts on the electrical system .... there are a LOT of filaments vertically in the screen, unlike the rear system ;-)

Makes sense really Neal. Too much going on in the grey matter, not thinking striaght.

Mine doesn't work
The light in the switch comes on but it doesn't de-ice

I read up on the wiring a while back when I considered 'upgrading' and it ran two seperate circuits from one switch (one for the left and one for the right) and each had a huge relay on, 30A if I remember correctly (I can look it up if anyone needs to know)

I've got a heated screen on my discovery, when I use it the engine starts to judder, I've got a very small chip in the screen could this be the cause,
-
It's very unlikely that the windscreen company will put a heated screen in there unless you already have one. There is a big difference in price. When I looked into it, they wanted an extra 300 quid to put a heated screen in a standard vehicle :-(

Mine sort of demists part of the screen but it's not very impressive. My driver's side heated seat doesn't work either...

When I bought mine, it had a stone chip in it and only the passenger side worked. I think it was the original screen and the elements were quite big and covered the whole screen area.
I have had the screen replaced by Autoglass and the new screen dosent have ful width coverage, it misses the last couple of inches either side of the screen. The elements are alot thinner than the original, but there are more of them.
But it works a treat. As I start work at 3am im always using it in the winter. I just roll down the drive a few yards so I dont fill the garage with fumes, then after about 3 minuites im driving off with a clear screen.
