Right, my mates TD has finally given up. We're going to replace it with a diesel lump, but we dont know which one. Thought of a P38 diesel, but that sounds hard...
What are your thoughts?Pros, cons of different engines etc etc. Id doesnt have to be a landrover engine.. I just dont know what options there are!

If my TDI ever goes bang i'll be after a GMC V8 6.2/6.5 diesel. Not as dear as you'd think.
-
2.8 isuzu good when working ive just had a bad one but ment to be the best
-
User Dazzawhipple on here was selling a 200tdi from a disco - that would be a very sensible choice. Everything fits , only th eexhaust needs a bit of modding.
dunno if he still has it.
-
Its got to be Tdi, its a piece of p*ss to fit, spare parts are easily available & you can tune it too
-
disco TDi first,
isuzu 2.8 2nd
PLease please make a good job of the exhaust if you do a disco TDi as i was looking at one the other day that was fitted by heath robinson & wurzel gumage,
instead of modding the exhaust had moved the slave cylinder back so had a big long rod that went round the exhaust

The IVECO engines used to be highly rated, and still are by their users.
Frogs Island (http://www.frogsisland4x4.com/index.htm) used to supply/fit them.
They fitted one to Frank ('LRM' columnist) Elsons 110 Station Wagon; 'PKV' (http://community.webshots.com/photo/153099485/153099485dTIOUI) 10years ago & it's still going strong
What about the 'Brazilian' 2.8 Tdi?
-
You seen the price of that BTM :? Call me biased, but I'd go for the Isuzu 2.8t. :D
-
also please remove the thought of a BM diesel out your head as that would be a nightmare,
-
TDi is No.1 for me
Fitted one after running V8 for years, excellent choice and if mine goes bang, it will be another Tdi
-
Thanks very much for all the ideas.. it seems like it'll be between a 2.8 isuzu or the 200tdi
