Well it is certainly right about the dense fog here.... can't see across the yard to the unit opposite and it's only about 70 ft away!

And a 70% chance a snow in Norfolk ...... woopee!!   Good job I haven't started the engine swap in the 110.

Followed up a few companies selling the £29.99 sets of snow chains on E-bay this afternoon.

£229.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For just one pair!!!!!!

"Ah- well sir you're into the Comercial tyre sizes now- we can charge more for them....."

Yes- you're not f******g kidding are you- £500 for a set of four snow  chains!! I'll take my chances without them this Winter thanks.

If I've got 40% snow coming, whats the other 60% of the weather going to be?

OR

If I'm gettin 40% snow, who's getting the other 60% of it?

OR

What weather do i have the greater percentage chance of getting?

What the hell do the percentages mean?
Title: snow
Post by: way2deep on November 21, 2005, 22:38:09
what they mean is:  if it  was going to snow there is a forty percent chance of it happening.but as it only forty percent  it's ten percent away from ....maybe yes maybe no...

I am absolutely certain that there is a distinct possbility of there being a likelyhood of the snow falling at some point in the country in the near future,   and I can predict without fear of contradiction that this possibility may transpire to be a reality and when this occurs then we will all be reassured that my predictions were indeed almost entirely accurate.

Looking at the Met Office site again- it actualy says a 40% chance of "disruption" whatever that means? So not even a 40% chance of snow then? Reading between the lines all it means is a chance of snow for Scotland and the rest is just covering their a***s.

Now we're at only 30% risk of disruption....b****r.

I like this bit:
"Current timings suggests the onset of the very cold weather will be around 0600 Thursday in Shetland, 1800 Thursday for Northern Ireland across to northern England, and 2359 Thursday for southern parts."

In perticular the words "around" and "2359". The latter sounds really quite precise for "around".

And:
"Snow will also occur at low levels ".... what? do they mean on the ground?

Time to put the recovery gear in the truck, I think ...

http://www.met.ie/forecasts/

The Irish Met Office usually are a bit more reserved in their forecasting of severe
weather - whick normally turns out to be accurate....so when they issue a warning for snow its time to take note!

Time to put my sleeping bag in the car- don't want be stuck at work again with just a coat!

They are only forecasting 3 - 4 inches. I shall get worried once it gets to be wellie deep.

1/2" of sleet that rapidly turned into a sheet of ice was enough to bring the Midlands to a grinding halt two years ago! Along with many others we forced to overnight at work due to cars and trucks blocking the roads.

Snow, and lots of it, is guaranteed for North Yorkshire.

Why?  My quad is 20 miles away from me, and I haven't worked out how to get it home yet.   :?

Are we ready for the snow?

. Gas tank full, freezer full, large supply of cat food laid in, generator fuelled and ready to go in the event of a power cut, logs chopped and stacked ready for the fire.

I`ve got the whiskey     ,next door got the beer   :P  :P

It's just hit here - a 10 minute blizzardy thing, not quite snow and certainly not rain (so sleet I guess !). The wind has now dropped, nothings settled just a very light dusting across the cars....

Will be a complete bu&&er if it freezes now
