Title: trick or treaters
Post by: MTyrrell on October 31, 2005, 22:25:01
Woohoo didn't get any this year, we must be living up to our reputation of being the mad family that lives at the end of the village

I'm siting here with a bag of fun size mars bard, milkyWays's, snickers (marathon for you oldies) and twixes that were fore any trick or treaters who dare call.
Feel quite sick now. and i'm only half way through the bag, used to be able to manage a lot more chocolate when i was about 5.

We had one lot, so I let Jack (http://community.webshots.com/photo/96560012/125841593PzNxZf) answer the door

I then printed a sign up;
  No Trick or Treaters Please
4 Year Old Poorly in Bed
  Sorry........

Seems to have worked so far, I'll leave it up for the week, I think

Well......

I nearly came to blows with some idiot tonight. He decided it would be funny to squirt Karen with a water pistol as she was on her way out the house (he looked to be in his 30's with a daughter of about 12 with him).

Karen didnt know what she had been squirted with so gave him a mouthfull (no swearing mind), he started ranting and raving about no sense of humour. I stormed out and pointed out that trick or trating is actual "demanding money with menaces" and is illigal. To which he pointed out that it was "tradition".  I think he thinks he lives in New England or something. I pointed out his error and the fact I had lived in the local for 30 years and to my knowledge it only started about 5 years ago. He decided to storm off up the road swearing at us at this point, I decided not to chase him as  his daughter was looking at him as if he was a bit of a t**t.

Hate this stupid idea, of sending  your kids out to trick or treat.
last time I had some kids call they couldn't have been older than 5 to 7 and there was no adults to be seen.

 What are these people thinking.

In this day and age what happens if you give the skids sweets and they choke or are sick, or you squite them from water pistol and they get wet. who would be liable.

No not tradition at least not British.

The urban myth I heard was it started due to Blue Peter in the 70's anyone shed any light on this?
Title: Fireworks
Post by: Spacemud on October 31, 2005, 23:05:57
None at all even though we have kids and sweets at the ready. We would have only got kids we knew anyway.

What I'm looking forward to now (not) is fireworks every night until the New Year. The dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, and various other birds love' em!  :x

Blimey, you miserable lot!!!

Its like a program on grumpy old men!!!

When I was little my mum rang a few people and then sent us on our way to the old folk in the village.  They loved us turning up and the best bit was a lady called Mrs Wynn who cooked us fresh pumkin pie.  It was great, all harmless and all in good taste  :D

How did you know that?  Spooky!!

As far as kids go with trick or treating, I just give them a big bag of sweets and a business card  :(kerching):

Must be nice to live where you live. Round here the trick is likely to be a brick through your window or a firework through you letter box.

OAPs sit in the dark all night and dont answer the door. It is not unknown for the trick or treaters to play the trick even after they get the treat.

Sorry state of affairs this country with hoodies and the like abusing the halloween.

By the way, I do like your labour break down, could not agree more

It's at times like this I'm pleased to live in the middle of nowhere. :D   I may be becoming a grumpy old man, (so I've been told),  But not a miserable git. I hope.   We laid on a ghost walk for our grandkids and children of some friends in the woods,  :(scared): with a buffet afterwards.  The hot punch a neighbour made was grand as owt. Made having 22 people in the house bearable. :(bloodshot):

When I was a young scoundrel in Wickersley, Rotherham, in the 70's/80's, we always had mischievous night (night before bonfire night) do you guys in Yorkshire know if this is still happening or has this "trick or treating" rubbish taken over?
