I never had one, although I knew a few people that did and rode theirs occassionally. They really were a pretty horrible device best long forgotten.

I never had a Raleigh Chopper, but I did have a smaller version - called the "Chipper". Not sure who made them, but more people seem to have had them than had the Chopper!!!

Cheers

Come back 'Grifter', all is forgiven!

......apart from the physical and mental scars caused by a seemingly automatic (and random) gear shift!!

......the road rash those things caused me

the iconic Raleigh Chopper re-launches in April 2004 and retails at £199.99.

about £50 less than my Suzie.... same scars on the knees tho, this time from digging out, not skidding out.

The odd things is too, the kids that buy one will think THEY invented it!!!

And the gears are on the grips on the handle bars. Insted of down betwen your legs on the crossbar.

MOdified angle on the front wheel to stop you going over the handle bars.
I have more than a few scars from my old chopper.

Get down shep!!!

I used to like the old gear change, you could pretend it was a car :?  well I was only 13.

Still it was a bit dangerous, if you went over a bump or off a curb whilst changing gear - it would launch you over the bars, bike one way, you the other.
