My B reg 90 has head rests on the front seats. How do I get theM;
1 To go up and down
2 To come off
Sounds like a dumb question but I can't shift them at all.
TIA

depends on the seat type.if you have a lever to recline the seat the head rest should move, but if you dont, then you may have the early type.
if the seat bases are like series seat bases then the head rests wont move.
as thats what i have in mine.
hope this helps

Dang - I have a lever to recline but the seat base lifts out like a series.
I am reaching out for the hacksaw as I think this will be the only way to 'adjust' the head rest. I have fitted a truck cab and the head rest stops teh seat going back as much as it needs to.

Well... if they are anything like mine... the up/down action is carefully controlled by grabbing it and pushing or pulling it up / down as required.
Removing them is slightly more technical in that you have to pull a bit harder until they come out completely
The above is true of both sets of 90 seats I have, both of which have removable bases

Well I tried brute force and belting with the heel of my hand but they didn't budge at all although they looked as though they should. Usually there is some catch or you waggle it some way to allow up and down but I suppose we are talking LR.
I may try belting it with a mallet. I'd rather take it out then cut it off but I'm not that fussy when it comes down to it.

all 90 seats have removable bases.
the early 90s had the same seats as the series 3.and if you had head rests then they would not move.
but the later 90s had different seats all together and the head rests should move.
one way to tell is if the bottom of the seat base is metel then you have the later type, if its wood on the bottom of the seat then it could be the early type.
hope this helps

Thanks Aaron - my seats have been recovered I think but the base is metal.
So from what you say brute force ought to shift the head rest - will it just pull out eventually?

have a look at my pics under new project.
theres some pics of the old type seats. these dont have movable head rests.
if yours dont have the same bases as mine then your head rests should move.
hope this clears it up a bit.

Aaron I'm being dense but I can't find your new project!

I'm sure that on my 1985 90 the headrest was bolted in one position to the seat back. Take off the rear plastic cover from the seat and have a look. It's not a hard job, IIRC they are just clipped on.
I took mine off to replace the cover on the seat back & they weren't the same as the type Aaron had fitted.
To see his photos, click the photos button under his post and then click on the "new project" link on the page that comes up.

Now we're cooking on gas - that sounds like what I have although it won't be pretty taking the back off.
I will investigate presently.

i hope you find out what seats you have.
my 84 90 was fitted with the black plastic seats, from a series.
but i have just replaced them with the same type but in deluxe trim, with fixed head rests.
was going to fit the later type seats but they where to much !!

There you go ;-)

Indeed the meal is completed. I made a small hole in the back of the seat found the bases of the shaft from the head rest and belted it with a drift and it eventually came out. 20 years of one position and it was just reluctant to let go.
Thanks for the help lads.
