Title: Noise from car stereos
Post by: pritch on October 10, 2005, 13:56:06
Anyone got experience with dealing with little darlings and their stupidly loud car stereos?  Going out and having words with them isn't an option as even if they do stop, they'd be gone by the time I managed to make it round to the front of my flat.

I've started a diary where I'm noting down times and number plates.  But then what do I do with it?  Police?  Council?

Council would sound like a good choice, I think they have an office for noise abatement.

Good luck, I will be watching this thread with interest.

Yes. Get in touch with the Enviromental Healt section of you local coulcil. Im having trouble with my neighbour, and they send you a Diary to fill out (as you are). When it is completed, they then write to those involved and "Offer" to take them to court. Keep up you diary, and hopefully they will stop.

Some councils have noise teams worth while giving them a ring and see what the score is, also try to take the vehicle details as well when logging them

its proof that environmental health might have trouble with

its not as if one will get caught out unless they are stoooooopid.

If it is causing a nuisance then environmental health can be involved.

They can serve a notice on the person causing the nuisance and if that is ignored they can remove the stereo. I don't know how they'd respond to problems from car stereo's as usually they're dealing noise from properties but it wouldn't hurt to give them a call.

Hmmm some years ago we had a similar with lads parking opposite our house and drowning out the TV with their stereos.

At the time I had a rather Smokey old Range Rover fitted with a 6cyl York diesel. One day I finally lost my rag and reversed the car up to one of the hatchbacks open window and floored the throttle for a good 20 seconds. The poor boy couldn’t crank his window up fast enough as smoke engulfed his car. He was not best pleased but never parked there again.

Even better why not get a load of mates to arrive in there 4X4's and box them in for a few hours buy then the stereo will have flattened the battery and then let them go. Make sure you have a video camera on your 4x4 then when they try to get in it or do anything wrong you can get them done for crim damage. If you do box them in get us a photo.....

Surely Plod could do them for "driving without due care and attention"? As we all know when the music is too loud when driving!
Music that Loud they would'nt be able to hear - say " An Emergency vehicle"

having been ont other side of the fence with a really loud stereo (stop throwing bricks) in my last car i no for a fact that the police can do a few things

1-if the window is down & stereo is pumping you can be done for broadcasting without a license
2-if its bass notes that are being played, had a mate who had a warning for doing damage to listed buildings due to the vibrations
3-obvioulsy causing a noise offence

Yeah - in a built up area it's anti-social, but I still want a mega loud stereo. The last time I had it cranked out loud I was driving across some rolling fields in lovely sunshine, stopping every 100 yards or so to pull out a stake with an orange arrow on it to Metallica at full volume. Bliss  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

Harmon Kardon / Karmon Hardon / Hardman /Cardigan system in Disco ES versions - can go 'streemely loud - could try playing them at their own game    8)

I had a go with engine noise next to a souped up Nova with 2 youngsters in... Poped the V8 into neutral and gave it a 'bit' of throttle... they noticed

If it is causing you big problems, especially if it is near housing..

Get times, recordings, number plates, etc...  and write it all down.  Go to the Police with it.  There is a noise abatement offence which applies, even to vehicles.  If they are sufficiently loud, then they get classed as a public address system and they start to break the law then ;-)
