can anyone tell me how to wire up a fag lighter into my series 3 so i can power my camcorder without the need for expensive batterys lol

at a rough guess im thinking the set up is plate on the bottom for live feed and the clyinder is the live but as ive never done one or even seen one thats not in a car b4 i was hoping someone here would know :) thanks

Hopefully you mean that the plate on the bottom is LIVE - this connects to the 'pin' on the bottom of the cigarette lighter plugs.

The cylinder is earth/neutral - this connects to the pins on the side of the cigarette lighter plugs.

If you head down to halfrauds or any other car parts shop, you can buy aftermarket kits to give you a socket, all you need to do is ensure you get it linked into a suitable fused power supply, either tap one off the fusebox, or run cables straight to the battery, this would give you constant power rather than have it going off with the ignition.

If you do run a cable to the battery, make sure it is suitable to carry the load your are likely to put on it (depending on what you are going to plug in (eg a fridge would have a bigger current drain), and add an inline fuse into your wiring.

This would be quite qimple, you would spend longer trying to work out where you are going to put the socket.

If you look on the fusebox, there should be some spare connections on the back, just test to see which is permantly live, at least one should be

Although if its an ex military you should have a pair of pin sockets on the dash somewhere
