Do you mean to just drive through it on the road?

We drove through, stopped a couple of times to look at the views, started to melt within about 2 minutes and rushed back to our air-con'd car

Oh yes, make sure the radiator is topped up and take plenty of drinking water with you (plus some for the rad in an emergency). There are water containers on the hill out of the valley in case you overheat. There are also signs telling you to switch off the air-con, to avoid the car overheating ... we ignored that bit

We drove through the valley during the day and arrived in the mountains (Mammoth mountains?) in the evening. We got very strange looks when we got out of the car dressed in shorts and t-shirts!

Been there, done that.

Drove through the valley, on my way to vegas, 8)  stopped at old mining site and then at the lowest point. watching the sunset over the valley was awesome. Scray driving at night (pitch black) through the hills on the way out of the valley and into Vegas. Plenty of snow up in the mountains.  8)
