Title: diff oil refill

hi
i have put new front stub axle and wheel bearings on disco
and just want to confirm that i need to top up diff with oil to replace what was lost during the operation

check the diff oil level  , but it may be the swivels that need checking

On the front axle, the CV joint runs in a 'swivel housing'... this lets you steer :-)

The 'one shot' grease is a very runny grease which goes in this swivel housing to lubricate the CV joint....

the book says to put in axle oil ?
which is what ive done
isnt that any good

If the book says put axle oil in the place shown on the picture, then it's wrong  :shock:

Earlier Land Rovers (Like the Series vehicles) had universal joints in the swivels and used oil for lubrication... the coilers use the CV joint and this uses the swivel grease as shown.

Are you sure it was factory-fit, Tim?

I thought the older Discos came with EP90 in the swivels from new;  LR then recommended replacing this with one-shot if it started weeping out.  In which case the manual would still suggest EP90.

There's been a recent debate on the 101 list of the relative merits of the two.  The consensus (if there ever was one) seemed to be, use EP90 if it stays in there, or one-shot if it doesn't.  But of course this is using a UJ-type swivel.
