Just a thought at the moment
I'm 'considering' swapping the engines around inmy disco's
sticking the 300tdi in the off roader and the v8 in the road car.
I'm aware this will be a mother of all jobs.
but, apart from the obvious, whats involved?
engine mounts?
could i keep the gear boxes in the original cars our would they have to swap too?
Electrics?
is there much different betwen the 200 shaped v8(91)and a 300 tdi (96)?
There is an LPG system to swap too. on the v8
i have spare fuel tanks so i could use the v8 on petrol for a while and fit the LPG later, i suppose?
Am i mad?
or does this sound like a good idea?
ps if anyone wants to help me over a few weekends it would be apprieciated

Jake! have a word you would be certified as a loon if you swapped your two over mate  would be better to pick up a 200tdi from somewhere and stick in if you want to go that route
-
Jake! I agree with Neal! That would be a task not bothering with! Just look out for a 200tdi as Neal advised!!
-
ok
Thought 1 finished with
Maybe the swap should be parts
2" lift, bumper, diff guards and cb into the tdi
Stick the parts from the tdi onto the v8?
turning the 300 into the off roader
What do we think of that?
(still trying to persuade SWMBO to let me, nearly there  )
-
ide do it that way
-
I thought you were going to convert the tdi in a couple of years?
Is there a problem with "Big Blue" ?
-
Jake i like your commitment. Dont do it. WHY?? is diesel better offroad??.Im yet to see proof either way. Maybe if you live in water but other than that they are way less powerfull(without spending lots) Heavier and sound crap...dont care what exhaust you have you diesel doesnt sounf as good as my v8.

I love V8's but langley farm was hilarious. All these tricked up V8 monsters stopping dead in water that a stock Shogun managed with ease. I always fancied a V8 for offroading but i'm put off now!
-
The problem is Big Blue is a poof when it comes to the wet stuff!
I want to blast into water and have big splashes but the engine always comes out on 3 cylinders
Nothings wrong with the V8 car, i'm thinking it'd be nice to have a bit more comfort.
this is all just idea's at the moment.
I thought i'd throw them in and get some response from ya'll
:D

You could always waterproof it ;-)

I've try'd loads of things.
The let down is where the HT leads connect to the spark plugs.
The distributer and coil are fine.
Any tips on water proofing the leads?

We'll have a chat at Abingdon ;-)

Halford sell a waterpproofing spray, it works a treat,
You need one of those 9 legged octopusses...this piccy was taken in the 2nd longest ford in the uk, about 120 yard...only the stuff from halfords used...

NO
all this swapping engines is time that could be spent off-roading :(biggrin):

Hmmm, good point, I voted yes, but your idea sounds a lot better!

I'd agree, I'd buy a tdi off ebay and just stick it in the off roader. Just done that to mine and it was dead easy!

I have to say your Disco V8 was rather good in the water.
Lets see what happens when it gets REALLY WET!!
By the way, a few of the more serious off roaders are going up to Avon Dasset on 9th octoberif you fancy it? Its near banbury. Looks like a serious play site!!!!!!
