I think I've just committed to a J reg 90 truck cab  Just don't tell my wife..... she'll go ballistic
Haven't got a clue what I would do with it.... don't really need it...... must be bonkers!
It is likely to be scrapped by it's business owners who won't want to transport it back to Devon from Norfolk. The main problem seems to be the power steering pump has seized. The other known problem is the drivers door doesn't shut properly after being blown open and has bent the pillar or hinges.
I've told them I'll have it rather than them scrap it if it's cheap enough.
It's diesel, but what engine would it be in a J reg (91-92)? Would it be a 200tdi?

Steve,
If it's cheap enough, then well done that man!!!
Hell, if you didn't want it I'm sure there'd be someone on here that did - I know I'd be interested at the right price . . . . .

One option I have just thought of is to put the engine and gearbox (it's had a recon box fitted last year!) into the 110 and gain a few mpg over the V8.
I know, I would miss the noise, but it is due a replacement soon anyway (170k miles and uses oil even quicker than petrol!).
I'm sure I could sell the LT95 box and Fairey OD from the 110 to regain some of the conversion costs. And maybe even sell the remains of the 90 if the chassis is sound.
Anyway, probably wouldn't do it. Just a thought.

If your lucky it should be a 200Tdi though I guess it could be a really late Turbo Diesel (19j) :?: :?:

J reg should be a tdi - I think that 1990 was the changover year along with the renaming of the model from a ninety to a defender.

HT
check here:

get the VIN and stick it in!
200TDis were available from the very beginning of 1991 and even late 1990. So it should be a 200TDi, but you need to check the VIN.
cheers

Look under the bonnet ;-)
-
There are two reasons looking under the bonnet is useless...... I haven't got access to it and I wouldn't know a 200tdi if it hit me between the eyes  It's got 4 cylinders too few for my normal liking
The only time I've seen it is when it's previous user turned up at work with it. He has now changed jobs and lost the use of the 90, but is still in contact with people where he used to work. That's how I know it's current state.
Anyway, it may not come to anything. I'll just wait and see.
Mentioned it (in passing!!) to Sarah last night and to my surprise, she said that's not bad, you've always fancied a truck cab 90    I thought she'd be :(bigangry): or at least -
:D
