Title: Lifted leafer WITH PICS!!!
Post by: Little-Green-Machine on July 21, 2009, 20:50:47
Just put my new rocky mountain springs on today   With military shackles
Has anybody had prop problems when doing this? a friend had 3 inch lift done with shackles and it ate props. will mine be affected in the same way?
also the axle wedges to rectify the angles, where to get them from?
also snatch or stage one V8 Props? where to get them?
Cheers in advance Reece

I run the same and do fair mileage, i personally don't think it affects the props too much, just keep them well greased and if one goes you can get a brand new rear prop for under £50 :)
Iv never managed to find axle wedges for a series but if you could find a plan could build some?
OOO nearly forgot, VERY IMPORTANT you lower your bump stops! i didn't so overstretched the front set and they were knackered and sagged right down :( expensive mistake. You need to lower them an inch to compensate for the military shackles, i haven't bothered on rear as they seem to be able to cope with it(3leaf)

thanks for that :D i managed to get some pro comp spring wedges off fleebay!
i found some flo flex poly lowered bump stops which i am going to get or make inch spacers for mine as they are new anyway, one thing my shocks seem to be at max articulation with very little movement which shocks would you recomend?
Cheers again Reece.

You did? good work! what did you search under? id be interested to see how they do.
Im running pro comp es3000's  318546 on the front and 321546 on the rear, they extend just a fraction more than i get out of the springs, but 2leaves on rear might get more! the first 3 numbers is the extended length and the 6 means its a hoop fitting!

Thats brilliant cheers :D
two clicks on the highlift and my back wheels leave the floor  iv got the two leaf package :D
I got the wedges here--->

Hmm wedges! they seem good hope there thin enough so that the little spike on top of springs can go through the wedge and still rest inside the axle to center it!?
If you have the two leaf package you might need longer shocks on rear then! i used to run  322546 on the rear but one broke and i haven't been able to find an easy supplier but could provide an extra inch of drop if needed! best to take off shocks and test to the max.

The seller is flogging off all the old Chris Perfect stock. Not sure if he bought it as a job lot, or was something to do with the company.

yea wondering which shocks the gon2far trucks ran? :-k
Paddocks do those shocks you mentioned for about 30 quid each!
I want some of the gon2far stuff

I couldnt find anymore of the chris perfect stuff on there :-k
Maybe il remove the extended shackles to get more articulation.
im opening up a can of worms here..........not good when i have no job also

I replaced the shocks an axle at a time as couldn't afford it lol, as the front flexs a lot less u may be able to put rear shocks froma 109 on there or something? just have a measure.
the extended shackles shouldn't affect articulation, i do have free-wheeling front hubs when on road tho which saves the front prop no doubt.
Title: Re: Lifted leafer
Post by: Little-Green-Machine on July 23, 2009, 23:42:01
yea i allready run standard rear shocks on the front as they are an inch longer than the extended fronts rocky mountain offer,
i think il just put the extended pro comps on the rear and go from there. im gonna make up some spacers for my bumpstops as i found some inch box section.
then iv found some 20 inch long brake hoses which should suffice
i want some freewheeling hubs at some point also.
Il put some before and after pics of the lift on tomorow as it is pretty different to standard.

The difference is quite noticeable, and yes in hindsight i should have washed it before doing it

Post by: Little-Green-Machine on July 24, 2009, 19:44:12
yea need 900's
The paras are great but the back is rough as i have no travel lol.

You don't want 9.00's. You want some 265/75's and let me get the 9.00's

I have fitted Rocky Mountain parabolics to my 109" with the extra leaf in the rear so it now has four back there. The front has extended dumb-irons which helps by moving the front end of the spring down and therefore tipping the nose of the diff upwards a little to keep the prop UJ's under as little strain as possible.

I also have the one-ton shackles but have changed my shocks for the one-ton type which are longer than standard 109" ones. The only thing is that the amount of travel of them doesn't seem to be all that much more than the originals but, having said that, it does alright when I get it onto the bumpy stuff.

i found some pro comp axle wedges on fleabay and they have put the angle of the diff back to normal, also i took the extended shackles off and the back is no lower but the front is! so im thinking they could go back on just the front ?

there's a bloke on the S2Club selling some 900 if you really want some, 100£ for a Set of 5

"900 x 16 9.00 x 16 Danubiana NATO pattern tyres for Land Rover Forward Control and 1 Ton models.

No idea how old these tyres are, as they came on my 2a FC when I bought it 5 years ago.  There is very little wear on any of the tyres.  According to our local tyre man, they are still all MOT legal, but they are starting to crack. Three have minor cracking, with the other two with more obvious cracking."

could put you in touch if ya want

I'd be interested in the tyres if they're still up for grabs.

It's about all that needs doing to my Landy now to complete it as a  one-ton replica.

However, it will also be getting a change of engine pretty soon too.

The guy who used to own it saw a picture of mine that I posted on LRBoards a couple of years ago and his kids liked the paint job so they asked him to copy it.

The only problem wa that he only had the view from one side and then he added the light blue too.

IIRC the picture he saw might have been this one

That picture was taken back in the days when it only had 205 tyres and very tired springs.

Pleased to say that she now looks a lot better

Sorry Little-Green-Machine I will get some pictures of mine posted very soon. Just as soon as I can get my computer to upload some to my hpotobucket account without losing the connection and then I can easily link them to here.
