Picking up a permanent live at the mo. :?
With the Ignition off I'm getting the oil pressure light and charge light staying on. It used to temporarily do this and removing one of the fuses and then putting it back in used to cure it, but now doesnt.Cant find (in the Green Bible) a part number for the relay type thingy that sits behind the centre panel. Could it be this or has anyone else got any ideas.
The earths have been checked and cleaned up and are now OK.
Its only this thats preventing it going for MOT

i am no that familier with s3 wiring (just stripped old stuff out of mine in favour of wiring it my self) but does you oil press light go out when you dissconect that relay? if it does try changing the relay for another one. is there another one in the vehicle anywhere that you could try just to see?

there are 3 possible little boxes behind the centre dash panel, but not sure which one it is yet :? . The lights go out when engine running though.
Will have a look when in work tomorrow

when the engines running the bat light and charge light should go out, you want to do the tests when the engine is stopped. one relay should be the ignition feed (the faulty one) one should be the starter relay and the other the glow plugs? (is it a diesel?). swap two of them round and see if you get a different fault. ie ignition lights work but now starter engages on its own.
your fault could also be a faulty ignition barrel.(?)
but iam only guessing here.

I'd take all the fuses out
if fault is still there it'll be the ignition switch
-
don't forget that faulty alternaters can give the same symptoms

quick 5 mins at work today and removing the fuse nearest the bulkhead the lights go out. Am I to presume its a relay type thingy and not ignition switch :?

Still need some pointers on this 1.
Still have oil pressure light on and low fuel light on with ignition off.
Turn ignition on and heat the plugs the charge light comes on (as it should) but the oil and low fuel lights stay on. all lights go out when engine running. Stop the engine, and the oil and low fuel light stay on again with ignition off :? Pulling out either fuse 1 or 4 clicks off the relay and light go out. Sometimes waggling the fuse holder turns the dash lights off.
Fuse 1 and 4 have a wire that links the 2 together - would putting an on off switch between them be feasable.
Have a feeling it could be the ignition switch but am loathe to spend 65quid to find out its not that whereas an on/off switch is better value at 50p (yep - I'm originally a Yorshireman  )

have a look on the back of the fusebox, see if there is any bad connections floating around
btw if it is the switch you can fit a dash mounted key ignition switch, works as well if not better than the column mounted one, lot cheaper too.

Ta for all advice :D Temporarily sorted with an on/off switch wired through the fusebox :D
