Title: Maximum Tyre Size On Disco Alloys...
Post by: 300TDi Disco on October 19, 2010, 20:32:11
I will be lifting the disco shortly   and wanted to know what  tyre size i would fit on disco alloys. My plan is to raise the diffs as much as poss.
I have been looking at 235/85/16 insa special track.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

235/85 R16 will be fine, but you may not want to go for the Special Tracks. They're likely to be noisy on the road and give you rather vague steering as well as distressing handing in the wet.

I'd be more inclined to go for something a bit less extreme, unless you're planning to do winch challenge events with it!

Dont forget they wont go straight on and you will need to do some mods to the body etc.

Would the 285/75/16 fit without chopping the arches out?? I understand i will have to do a couple of cuts (camel cut)

I have 235/85 R16 Colway C-Trax tyres on my 200Tdi with a 2" lift & no body mods. Cant fault the tyres, fantastic all rounders, not too noisy on the road, good aggressive tread for off road work.

285/75 R16 Special Tracks Are a very tight fit on a Discovery. A Camel cut won't be enough.

235/85 on a Disco with a 2" lift just catch the bottom edge of the back arch.  If you don't want to sut it then tweak the bottom edge of the panel and extend the bracket next to the mud flap.

Just brought a set of 285/75 16's for my disco. I have 1.5" lift spring on way and was thinking of a 3" body lift, is the body lift gonna cause any problems & think I'll still need to chop arches???

Hi there, I'd say yes, you'll still need to cut some off the rear arches and as for the body lift but you will need to adjust the steering column links due to the different hight, break lines and probably the clutch line but not too sure on the last

I did a 3" lift on my P38 & had no problems with brake lines, steering or clutch. Thought it would be even less complicated on a disco. I guess time will tell lol!

A suspension lift is one thing and wouldn't affect anything too much  but a body lift involves extending all the lines as what you are doing is moving the body and chassis further away from each other so the existing lines will be too short and for the steering column you are changing the angle so it would need re-set at a different length to compensate for that

Like I said I did a 3" body lift on my P38 Range Rover, took about 2hrs, Also done 3" body lift on an L200 & a 6" body lift on a Hi-lux crewcab but this took a little more work lol!

Running 235/85R16 Macho's and i have the 2 inch lift plus needed to trim the front bumper and arch / Sill bit and also a trim on the rear arches.  Running modulars on the front and Disco steels on the back.
