Depends what you have switched on and the state of your battery though.

It stays the same whatever is on lights fans heated windows 14.5 what some people need to know is amps go up to cope volts dont go down, unless you are running a substandard setup.
Mine is totaly standard 300tdi well maintained hence the readings i get.

Can I back into this question, with some of my own, Re:Alternators.

I have recently replaced my Battery, having been caught out by the last cold snap, and knowledgeably knowing that it was inferior for the previous two years.

Since changing the battery, I have noticed that my rev counter has been 'bouncing' erratically and at times none existent, could this be the alternator?

If yes, and I need to replace it, what should I be looking at in terms of manufacture output & average price?

Would this be a good dea (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-LAND-ROVER-ALTERNATOR_W0QQitemZ300079992409QQihZ020QQcategoryZ31348QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)l? <- link to ebay).

or what John Craddock  (http://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/product_search.asp?catid=3&page=new)has to offer, not sure, which one I need. (YLE10113 /RTC5680E

Any help or advice greatfully accepted.

Start by checking the connections on the back of thw alternator, Rover used a particularly hard covering on their wire to keep the cost down and as it ages the wires become brittle, plus they are quite thin.  I've seen no end just fall off.  Clean and replace the connections, make sure they are a sound fit before putting your hand that deep in your pocket for a new alternator.
