Title: Running In Oil
Post by: Guy90 on May 03, 2004, 22:45:24
I've just put this stuff into the new engine as directed by Turners. It's like water!!. However it seem to make the engine smoke more than it would on the real stuff. There's no way it'll get though the MOT. How long should I use this stuff for before I change it for real oil?

No they didn't! Doesn't say anywhere in all the stuff they sent. It seems to suggest that you leave it in for 500 miles but that can't be right can it? I ran stationary for 30 mins yesterday and was going to do the same tonight and then change it for the real stuff.

Does it not state a max speed during this period?? 500 miles for weak oil does seem quite alot to me too

Running in oil :?  I've never even HEARD of it.  :o   Just sounds like some-ones bright idea to relieve people of money.  Just put in real oil, then change at 500 mile. Change the filter as well.

To be fair, that way forward has worked for me for years....... probably before the smart ass who thought of 'run in oil' was even born..... :D[/quote]

The oil has a very high cleaning fliud levels, which aids in removing all the grinding paste and dust out of the engine, all of which cannot be removed during and after reboring etc. I would normally only do about 50 miles before changing oil (when hot) and filter.

Yeeh I could go along with that, but not 500 miles!! seems too excessive to me
