Title: Clutch
Post by: Guy90 on March 23, 2004, 20:14:23
I'm changing the clutch on my 90 2.5 N/A :x . Which side of the friction plate faces the flywheel? Is it the side where the centre bit protrudes more? When I've offered it up from that side it leaves the friction disc proud of the flywheel which doesn't seem right :?  :? . Or have craddocks sold me the wrong one :evil: ?

Most clutch plates are marked "Flywheel Side"

Have you checked the plate..?

'Flywheel Side' should be stamped on the metal in the centre of the friction plate.

The longer protrusion normally faces the gearbox.

I was expecting to see flywheel side printed on it but it isn't! If the side that protrudes more is the side facing the flywheel then how do the clutch and flywheel engage each other as fitting it that way leaves the clutch plate sitting very proud of the flywheel!

Best thing to do is to take some pics as you do the job, as a record & you can refer to them when things are going back together.

Just doing  an engine & gearbox swap on the lightweight, the pics are a help after 3 days of messing about with things. Finding where everything is or was.

<very confused>

How are you supposed to end up with the little pile of bonus bolts at the end of the job if you do that ???!?!

Honestly, some of you people have no idea about working on Land Rovers

Tim,

Are you sure it should be a little pile of bonus bolts :? . I have a very large pile and I'm sure I haven't gone wrong anywhere :D  :D .

Really, you should know by now, when you go for a brew, your mate comes along and scatters some of the spares box you have in the shed all over where you are working

Always good fun    :twisted:  :twisted:
