Title: Nearside wing mirror replacement ?
Post by: diff-breaker on June 04, 2008, 22:04:10
Oops bust my nearside wing mirror straught off the housing - the bolts have sheared off the pastic retainers to the backing plate attached to the door.
wing mirror all in tact so don't need replacement but how do you get the backing plate off and replace the pasitc retainers ?
And how do you get the backing plate out?
Any one done this repair before ?

Triangle cover on the inside of the door just pryce off. You will then see the three bolt head that hold the mirror on.

Sounds to me like the use of a hot glue gun will fix it, if not then 2nd hand replacements are fairly cheap. Pre-face lift Discovery 1 have the same door mirrors as 4-dr RRC if that helps if/when you look for a replacement.

I used a soldering iron to weld the plastic lugs back on then filled the cavities with fiber glass resin , worked well
