Anybody know if its possible to get a new bulkhead made for a series 3, local land rover shops say they don't make them any more but the one on this truck is shot and would really like to replace it with a nice new one rather than a second hand one!
Cheers. :D
-
this place refurbish them, or make new(ish) ones:

-
Cheers dude, thats a huge help! :D
They look pretty good, almost like new!
-
there are other places too.
i'm planning on getting hold of another bulkhead at somepoint thats in better nick than mine, and getting that all fixed up while its out of the vehicle.
it shouldnt take too long to get it swapped over if all i'm doing is the bulkhead
-
Yeah i reckon its well worth doing, makes em look alot better!
With the Series 3 being such a popular truck still and knowing that the bulkheads tend to suffer from rust i was really suprised to find out that they dont sell them knew any more!! Rubbish i tell ya!!
I was dead lucky when i rebuilt my Series 3 the bulkhead was pretty sound, a few patchs here n there and it was ready to rock n roll! :D
-
You can extensively repair them if you can weld. Footwells, door pillars, and repair sections are all available.

i used a defender bulkhead, not to much modifying to do :D
-
Thanks very much Ed i'll have a better look on those sights when i have longer to look, but at first glance they look pretty good! :D
Mark, did you use a 90 or a 110 bulkhead cos i was tod a 110 fits but theres loads to modify cos of all the dash being different?!?
What exactly did you have to change on the defender one?
Cheers.
-
... i hope your not calling us rubbish
lol i thought we can get them, but not the galv ones ??
-
I would never call you guys rubbish!! 8)
Please check it for me if you can get new bulkheads even if there not galvanised that would be awesome!! :D
Cheers dude 8)

i dont know if its a 110 or 90, i had to modify the pedel box mounts, and windscreen mounts, and i think thats it.
-
A that doesnt sound to difficult, it didnt matter that the dash is different or anything like that then?
-
i didnt put the dash back in, but its looks the same i think.
iam going to make a dash when i can be bothered
-
O its like that, when you can be bothered a! Spose its not really essential!!
Cheers for all the help tho guys!! :D

i fitted a defender bulkhead to my series 3 aswell dash bolts straght in main things to change for a standers series 3 is the gearbox tunnle, drivers footwell and creat some windscreen mounts.
fairly straight forward if you are good at fab work
-
Well thats definatly different mark, but looks to me like you got all the essentials sorted, no need to have everything in the conventional place is there! 8)
Ideal thanks Daniel that helps, if its just those couple of things it doesnt sound to difficut at all! Do you know if you fitted a 90 or a 110, i thought they be pretty much the same but i've heard not!
-
ive never known of any diferences between 90- 110 :?
if you can wait untill tommorow i can post some pics of exactly whats involved as it always sounds easyer than it is
-
Theres no rush mate, not in a hurry at all. :D
Would be ideal to see some pics! 8)
-
well if i dont do it now i will forget to do it
you will need to modify the tunnle i did this by siply welding the one off the series bulkhead on i think you have to beat the footwells out a bit so they line up with the new tunnle.

you also have to modify the divers footwell for the stearing to claer i did this by chopping the corner off and weling it back in inside out. the other thing in the drivers footell is the exelorator pedal/ linkcage now i have a 10j and so have a defender pedal fitted with a cable to opperate it.

dash fits straight in i think you need some fixings along the top at the back of the bottem pice of dash but thats the easyest bit of the job

i havent got any pics of my windscreen mounts so i will sort you some next week.
you will need to chop the windscreen wiper mount and bolt the series motor straight to the bulkhead. the heater will need some mounting holes in the footwell as there are non.
there are a few big holes in a defender bulkhead that arnt used its up to tou weather or not to weld or put rubber bngs in
i think thats all of it but if you need to know more i will try and help.

-
They look good to me, nice n simple.
Thanks for the help guys! :D
-
sorry still not got round to doing a pic of my screen mounts i went a simular rout to mark by bolting them on.
mine were chopped off the old one a pice of plate welded in the back that was drilled and taped.
i will do my best for a pic
-
was there any need to do anything with the bulkhead feet, i have one a 90 bulkhead to fit to my 3 but the feet dont line up with the outriggers
-
bulkhead should go straight on :?
how far out is it?
-
its not that far out about 5 mm ,the bolt covers half the hole ,but its knowing which way to go more than anything else, i could do with finding out the distances between the mounting holes on the chassis and the bulkhead ,and also it has had new outriggers so one of them could be out but which one, would appreciate it if someone has measurements from inside the chassis rail to edge of outriggers on both sides to eliminate the odd one :? :(
-
measurments shmeasurments
get some longer bolts and a big hammer,m thats how mine fitted.
after market out riggers wont be exactly the right size so a little adjusting will be in order.
-
it fits now i chopped the outriggers just a few more mods to do as i have a prima td fitted i need to make the passenger footwell 2" narrower and take the old fuse box area out and try to fit the throttle pedal
-
right more problems !!! has anyone fitted a servo brake system off a series 3 to a defender bulkhead ,i am having trouble with getting the clutch ,steering column and brake servo to go in the right places any ideas

i had to cut out a new hole and plate up the old one.
-
strange all of mine were in the wright place :?
-
my brake box and clutch box fit ok but the steering colume woulndt fit between them.
-
:? how bizzar i will go have a look at mine but i definatly didnt modifiey it to get them to fit :?
-
i wonder if the defender bulkheads differ from age and model :?:
-
they might do i think mine is/ was a TD5 bulckhead- very small tunnle :?
what was yours from??
also there is a shot of the top of my pedles and steering colume- a bit snugg but all there :?
Dan
-
yes!! i have managed to get everything in place welded the whole ns footwell and tunnel in so everything is hunky dory just need some seam sealer to seal the joints and some nice bronze green paint
