No yellow push down nob but another push and pull lever. What type of box is this. I have never seen one before. Is it a old box or WHAT !!!!
-
Pictures ??
-
Well thats the problem from underneath it looks like a series box from inside its just another leaver the same a high and low just inline and set back nearer the seat..... Would have to take floors out and tunnel to get a good photo...
-
Isnt the overdrive something like that ? or is there something on the PTO ?
-
Nope there is no overdrive I first thought that.....
-
could be wrong here ( iam sure canadian al will correct me)
but its a series box with an overdrive (thats your lever) but the diff lock linkage is missing.
-
Does one lever move front to back and one side to side . Mine does so I may have the answer .
-
Both seized at the moment but I think you may be right side to side...
-
also it dont have a overdrive I had a look.... Series dont have a diff lock they have no diff in the box its just a permemnt lock.
-
Sorry Mark but I dont see an overdrive and a Siii has no diff lock on the gear box :D
Miniman , can you see where the levers are linked to .
-
Well no but there is a like pivot on the top of the transfer case which the leaver trys to move
-
Sorry Mark but I dont see an overdrive and a Siii has no diff lock on the gear box :D
Miniman , can you see where the levers are linked to .
very true, i thought the yellow knob locked the diff when in low ratio.
so come on then, please reveal all :?:
-
Well , the yellow nob releases a sleave in the transfer case nose and engages the front axle . the red nob moves a gear selector in the transfer box to give you low range .
-
Well yes but what is the box from as its very strange...I never seen one like that before....any idea...
-
do you know what arrangment this box has, and why dooes it look like the rear prop goes through the middle cross member?
-
Oh you mean on the mistery box . It looks like the yellow nob has been modified at some time . there is not a lot of room onder that floor to do much with .
-
I,ve got to put the kids to bed now , will check later .
-
chow for now
-
why dooes it look like the rear prop goes through the middle cross member?
Its a LWB they did have the prop go through the crossmember. Sorry I was not telling you the vehicle. It was originaly a 6 cylinder safari but now its everything and anything....
-
i see
-
Right I'm back .It looks like on the photo the red nob is now black ( this should move front to back ) and the ( now ) red nob replaces the yellow nob . I think this red nob also moves front to back . Is it in line with the black nob ? Can you see a spring which would pull the red nob toward the rear of the vehicle . ? this would return you to 2wheel drive when you go back to high range .
Spray it all with wd40 and get it moveing if you can .
-
Well because I have you interested now When I get home from fork tomorow I will take the floors out and get you some photos so you can see what I see. What I was wanting to here was it is a very rare Military box which is bullet proof...he he. I will have a picy shoot tomorrow if its not still raining cats and dogs. I have also put a post on ORRP but they for a change are stumped aswell.....
-
Can't you do it now its only seven O,clock :D
-
The photos. Its defo for the 4wd high but what gearbox is this. Its a HDA2 box and outside I have a 2a box which has HDA4 on it.
-
Can you see the gearbox number ? I think the HDA2/4 are pattern ident numbers . It still looks to me as if its a home made affair . If you can find the gearbox number I can tell you exactly what its from ( if I can find the book ) .
-
Think that it is a normal gearbox with a Jeep transfer case on it (poss off a CJ6?).
Looks chrysler based to us - thanks to SamRo.
With this box you can put it into 4wd but without having the center diff being locked. Drive to the front axle or not and then high or low.
-
Its does not look non landrover. If I have high and low and you say a center diff where are all the leavers. A series box does not have a diff its just locked or not. When you say Jeep do you mean american jeep ?
Also what is a cj6 ?
-
It all looks very Landrover to me .
Yes , CJ referes to crysler Jeep from the USA . I am very sceptical as to this being a oddball transfer box . It simply would not fit without an adapter plate of some kind . You cannot run fulltime 4wheel drive on a series because there are hooks joints in the front axle ( not c.v joints ) and you will get the wobble of death effect . Is it a standard front axle I wonder ? , or a range rover axle adapated to fit ( even though its wider ) .
-
Thats the next question me old china.....Have a look in my photos and there are pics of the whole vehicle... 109 Safari
-
it all looks standard to me . I still think you have a home made four wheel drive lever . :D
