Could i put a 200tdi engine and box into this thing above! How hard would it be, and permanant 4 wheel drive shouldnt be too hard cause its got 90 axles am i right?

Sounds like youve got it right!. the perm 4wd will be no problem witht he 90 axles. You might have to have custom props made up to the right length but that isnt hard.
To be honest, if i were going to the hassle of coil springing a series i would go for a new engine with 90 box at the same time seems silly keeping the old 2.25!

Thats what i thought! But hey if i get it then it gives me a project ready for when i can drive! And plus its tax exempt so will be cheaper to run! Would all the mounts be the same? and will i have to use a ninety front?

im not sure that the gearbox mounts are the same but someone with more experience might be able to tell you more.

If you have an exempt vehicle with different axles, coil suspension, different engine and gearbox, then you have a dodgy motor that should really be a q-reg. If the chassis was still standard, then the whole vehicle would be only 5-points.

Thats not mine, i was just wondering if a tdi engine could be fitted in, as far as i gather that is the orignal chassis

we sell lots of 200tdis and 300tdis out of discos at work and some of the customers have tried fitting them to series land rover and not succeed. But one did tell me once, that he had done it with not much hassle but he did say there was a lot of cutting and welding, on thing like the exhaust and engine mounts. But if you could get the mounts with a engine your half way there.

you would kinda expect exhaust work and engine mount work with most engine swaps!.
any engine will fit in a landrover if you try hard enough so i cant see why you wouldnt succeed. I helped a mate do a 2.5 petrol and 5 speed 90 box into a coil sprung 88 and that was straight forward enough.

a 200tdi fits dead easy into a series motor
bolts straight to the series gearbox
drivers side engine mount needs changing
exhaust has to be custom made or you can buy one from Steve Parker
rad and intercooler need mounting.
but thats it
easy peasy
i did mine on my own. and it rocks. rocks more than words can describe.

A Series is a leafer, not a coiler. Leaf springs are standard, coil springs are not. If a Series has coil sprungs like a 90/110, then it's not got an original chassis anymore as far as the law is concerned.

iv heard of a place in a mag that for about 3 grand puts a recon disco motor in a series cant remember where i saw it though :?

Two of my friends have done it, first was a 2a with a Defender engine, went like a rocket, 35mpg, he drove it like it was nicked though and totalled the gearbox after nine months. He had to change both chassis mounts but that was only 'cos it had a BMC diesel fitted beforehand - usually only the driver's side mount needs changing for a Defender engine to fit. Other friend has this series 3 with a Disco engine. Easy fit, straight in with the 2.25 engine mounts, as with anything the devil is in the details.
