Hi all,
I have a friend that is looking to buy one of the series range, now i own a kitted disco but i`m not that clued up on the ol series range. She test drove a series III the other day and said the top speed was only 38 and as far as landrovers go i told her that might be right, now i know there not rocket machines but she said she would be looking for something to at least top 50mph! is she looking in the wrong catergory should she have to move up to the 90 range or was it just a bad example she probably drove, i know what your thinking well depends what engine it was, well im waiting her reply and will let you know.
Thanks

Very bad example. My 1963 2.25 petrol will hit about 70 and cruise happily at 60-65mph. 2.25 Diesels are a slower but should make 55mph happily.

Yeh, I agree there.
my 2a was good for 55 (no more unless down a hill, but 55)
So either it wasn't performing properly or she wasn't pushing the throttle enough?

people tend to lift off owing to the engine noise

My 109" has a serious engine fault just now and runs on 9.00x16 tyres (they are 35" tall) and I can still do 55mph in that!
Definitely sounds like a bad example.

my first s3 could hit 70 easily until you put a load on the back ie a light caravan then 38 was all it could do. drive train was well worn. :-(
but my dads diesel s3 he had towed a 16ft caravan to the south of France and back TWICE! his hearing was never the same afterwards though!

Find someone who knows series trucks to go along with you when you have a look, if it's up this way (nearish chesterfield) I'd be happy to help

It all depends on your budget and what you want to do with it??? Any decent series will do 60mph. If you want to keep it long term you could invest in 200 lump for it,making the sky the limit,100mph+,all depends on your knowledge, needs and budget.
