hi all,
im looking at buying a p reg jeep cherokee 4.0 v8, but the guy lost one of the alarm trasponders, an the other doesn't work, is there any thing i can do to get this working, or will i have to take it to jeep an spend loads of money,
-
You can buy one off e but it will need to be programmed by a dealer
-
its a straight 6 not a v8, didn't know that,
well i bought it, p reg grand cherokee limited, 3 former keepers, 88,000 miles full serviecs history, blue, near mint condition, mot,ed £600,
looks like im gonna have to get it on a tralier an get it to a main dealer then, :-(
-
sounds like a bargin
-
cheers, just can't wait to get her running so i can drive it, did read somewhere that if u earth a wire that goes through the door u can buy pass the alarm,
not really sure if that'll work for me, as i need to programe the fob to the car,

Really? All the reviews rate them as one of the best 4x4's for the money. Not found a review yet which doesn't make them shine.

Where do they have reviews of 8 -10 year old GC's compared with XJ's or Discos of a similar age??l
-

Try google !
There's hundreds of them. Try doing a search for grand cherokee review and take your pick of 2 million hits which come back, there's a few which will be reviews of the ZG / ZJ.

where are the fuse boxs located on these's, been trying that key fob reprograming thing an noticed my centrol locking is not working, any ideas please,
-
Drivers kick panel - there's a tiny cover with even tinier fueses inside.
-
ok thanks,
-
Did the central looking pack up after you collected the GC???
-
no was like it when i got it, think key fob is not working either, think its gonna have to be a main dealer job, nightmare, it doesnt turn over fire or anything,
-
Sounds like door control module for the entire immobiliser system....they are located I think in the passenger front door
Swapping a wire to disconnect is not an insurance friendly option...

If on his driveway, that would be a fantastic test to prove where the problem lied though - If not just to get the engine warmed up.
Rocker switch perhaps to re-arm the imboliser and alarm?
-
If you put a key in the lock and turn does the alarm go off??
-
yeah, the alarm goes of all the time,
i spoke to jeep dealers in exeter today, he said he thinks the key just needs codeing £87, hope thats all it is,
-
It might be a silly and pointless question ,but have you changed the batteries in the keyfob for new ones ?
-
yep, tried that, its book into main dealer on tues
-
got jeep back today from jeep garage (carrs) in exeter, new key fob an re programed, £148, jeeps running sweet as a nut, more then happy,
-
Proper job...glad it wasn't a bigger issue
-
cheers, only think that worrys me about it is when ur on full lock it seems to scuff the tyres, sort of wots to keep going straight on, not really sure how to explane it, are they all like it, mines the limited so all time 4x4,
-
Mine scrubs a little on full lock, but not 1/4 of a turn back.
They can on occasion have issues with the viscous coupling in the transfer case, easy to check with the one of the front wheels up, with a breaker bar on one of the wheel nuts can you turn the wheel (just)? If so your transfer case is OK and it's just because it's permi 4x4.
-
I always thought it was the LSD that caused that.I scrubbed the tyres quite badly when i first got mine, took a while to get used to the huge turning circle.!
-
its a bit strange at first, but use to it now, loving everything else about it, lots of fun
-
looks like u got a bargain there, glad it was just the key fob.
welcome to the jeep experience !
