Title: 15 or 16" Rims?

I'm considering buying a new set of rims for my Series 3.  Does anyone have any views on the pros & cons of 15" or 16" ones.  Does 16" rims have more ground clearance, if so why would anyone ever want 15" rims?

most will be 16" for series as to fit around break drum, 15" normally work better on disc'd cars as disc is set back. best to get a set of LWB rims and shove some 7.50 x 16's on, i've got some SAG which arn't best on road but usable, but grip very well off road

I like discovery rims on Series 3's (although I am biased as I run them!), you can pick them up dirt cheap and they fit a treat.

A 750x16 tyre is around 31" tall.  For a wider tyre with equivalent height you can use a 31/10.5R15 (or a 265/75R15) on  a 15" rim (although the steering gets a tad heavy).  For more diff clearance 33/11.5R15's are an option although low speed steering becomes a task for superman.

I've got 750x16 SAT's, 31/10.5R15 MT's and a set of 265/75R15 AT's (for on the road) for my SWB.  They all do the job of holding it off the ground equally well, although in the mud the old SATs seem to be the best tyre and on sand the wider 15" tyres are far superior.
