Title: 1955 86" S1
Post by: mark1eyland on September 21, 2008, 09:27:55
Hi - Have been rebuilding this Land Rover over the last 12 months or so
and have encountered a repetitive problem: The seal between the
Thermostat housing and the water pump seems a poor design consisting of
a copper tube and a rubber ring which keeps failing even when combined
with gasket compounds. Has anyone else had this problem and found a
reliable solution? (2 litre petrol engine)

Thanks in anticipation

Mark

'Tis a poor design, if you've got the copper tube you're lucky, they are meant to help pad out the O ring so it fits.  Obsolete last time I checked and long been missing from my petrol one.  I once managed to squidge 2 O rings in there that worked eventually.  Don't think sealant will help much.  Strangely this time its been put back together it hasn't leaked from there - all got to come apart again though as the new water pump leaks too much - another quality pattern part, apparently they are all useless too.
